MCI | Kansas City International.

Kansas City International Airport, locally called KCI.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas...tional_Airport

Statistics (2016)
Passengers 11,041,750
Aircraft operations 122,844

Currently the Airport is 3 circular terminals (only 2 currently in operation) A flawed design that was already outdated when it opened where each set of gates has it's own security checkpoint. All the shops and restaurants are outside the security areas. It was built in the 1960s as TWA's "Airport of the Future.

The city is currently in negotiations to build a new, privately financed, $1 billion USD terminal and consolidate all the operations to a single terminal where terminal A currently sits. Terminals B and C would get re purposed.

Selection Committee Picks Edgemoor To Build New Single-Terminal KCI

http://kcur.org/post/selection-commi...l-kci#stream/0

Quote:
After weeks of deliberation, Kansas City officials have recommended Maryland-based Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate to design, build and finance a new, single terminal at Kansas City International Airport.

The selection committee, comprised of airport officials and city council members, announced the decision Wednesday. The recommendation will now go to the full city council for approval.

The potentially billion dollar project would be one of the largest in the city's history, if ultimately approved by voters in November.

I hope they approve it this time. Current place is a craphole that was out-dated the moment it opened.

This should be "KCI", not "MCI" yes? Mods can we get a correction to the title?

It was formerly Mid-Continent International Airport.

Ah, I see. Yes. The description on the first post said it was referred to as "KCI" locally, but yes, MCI is the official designation.
