I have to say that I am very happy to see those beautiful pictures of Albania, I didn't know it is so nice... Honestly, I have never been to Albania and I thoght Albania is something like 'european Iraq'... totaly isolated and undeveloped

Thanks to this forum, now I know Albania is a nice place!

btw. You only need to fix those roads, they are awful!

cheers

Yes Football, but it is not very nice at all, (nor is it civilised) to offend any country including Afganistan and Iraq, we are the first ones to complain when others use "Albania" in pejorative terms.

Horrible. After few years the hill and Vila e Zogut will totally disappear behind these horrendous buildings.

Sadly you are absolutely right, and look at the way those savages have built right at the edge of the Aphitheatre

I think the quality of contruction in Durres is quite low. There is no innovation, uniqueness, care for the city, just standard 15 floor residentials withe attention to balconies, but looking horribly inadequate and ugly.
The areas which are shown in this picture are also quite important, and it saddens me that the best part of the city is being filled with such buildings. Also, on the Durres masterplan, the second plan that did not win, there seemed to be a construction of over 25, towering over the rest of the buildings. That seems to coincide with an article brought by Illirycum about Kurum providding steel for contruction of a Durres highrise, the cancelation of a 25-floor building in Durres by the KRRt, and an old article by Biznesi about a contruction of a 22floor and 19 floor building in Durres. Wish there was a way to clarify whether the talks are about a single project that cannot find its place or whether there are more than one. I also hope, however, that the quality change.

I can't really understand how we Albanians are so eager to ruin our memory. Durres is a mediterranean city and as such should not have tall buildings near the sea. Do we think that other European and mediterranean cities are so poor not to have money to build tall buildings? Do we really think these cities in Italy are so poor not to let e single tall building rise close to sea????

There are thousands of square meters that are completely free from Tirana to Durres where such big buidings can be constructed following a well done urban plan. But people chosen from us such as Koka brother of the smuggler of cigarettes and close friend of Nano is not interested to prepare such a plan and construct if he wants thousand of skyscrapers in other parts of the city which do not interfere with our archeology and history. Why the hell should we rise e 26 floor building 1 cm away from amphitheatre??? How can we explore the ruins beneath this 26 floor building. Some Albanians have found the solution. Two years ago amphors and other ancient ruins were thrown in the midway from Tirana to Durres. And instead of memories of our history we have now in the centre of the city such a horrible low quality building that has canceled the footprint of our history. What a pitty!!!!!!
What a shame for us Albanians!!!! We are destroying our memory and it will be too late when we'll realize how wrong we were. Instead of tourists that would admire our ancient ruins, we will have modern ruins of high and low quality buildings that will fall during the first small earthquake.

Durrės - Summer 2006

Before i post some pics of Durrės (never before seen) i just wanna make some comments.
I was really immpressed with Durrės.It has grown so much, it's crazy, i was very immpressed also at how clean the city was in comparisson to Tirana.
Some really great projects are being planned for the city although unfortunately i could get just a few pics cause my brother had to leave.

Durrės is so big that is can be described like 2 cities split in half
You have the Vollga area which covers most of the downtown and you have Lagja 13 which basiccally covers the Hekurudha area and Iliria beach.
It's really immpressive
