P-51 Mustang fighters in Upper Parliament Street Liverpool 1944
Storage wrapped P-51 Mustang fighters (w. wingtips removed for shipment) rolling down city street en route to airbase for use in the D-Day (Operation Overlord) invasion of Normandy.

What superb pictures and what a busy amazing place, it's just makes me feel a bit sad seeing the loss of all those tram lines and the Overhead Railway.
I know it's easy to look at the past with rose tinted specs, but you can't help but say wow when you see those images. |

No Zim, you are right. What these pictures show is essentially a different city, economically, positionally (as in economic and international role, we have not moved geographically!), funtionally.... the population levels, it's sheer busyness. One reason why people should realise that when Liverpudlians bemoan a lost society it is more than being maudlin.. or rose tinted notions.
