Up until now, I didn't realise, this fab steel construction tower was on such a prominent corner; particularly on 8th Avenue, and also between both the smaller West 40th & West 41st.

BTW What are the forumers meaning by the "framing"? Does it mean the X-bracing?

It will possibly be clad in the white double-laminated glass as Sydney's Aurora Place Tower completed in 2000 as the 3 pics below by myself & CULWULLA:

...and also the top fin of Aurora's, although the NY Times Tower will have it squared-off on its crown:

Including the massive spire reaching 219m/718ft, which the NY Times Tower will have as well but the spire reaching much higher for the N.Y.C. Renzo Piano NY Times Tower:

Muse, the tower will not have white glass, but the glass on the building will have another facade in front of it made of 'slats' which will be white, there is a detailed diagram, but heres a picture;

The framing that is being reffered to is the 'notches' fitted on the lower few floors of the building which look like silver dots, these are part of the facades fitting. plus the framework pointed out by the arrow is where the glass entrance to the lobby will be.

Indeed hella good, thanks. The ceramic cylinders are clear in this render:

...but not so much on this much later evening render:

____________

On both renders posted above, the sides aren't showing the ceramic cylinders clearly at all!

Partial quote below from the official Renzo Piano site on the project @ http://194.185.232.3/works/064/descr.asp on the glass that is to be used,

"On the contrary, the use of clear glass combined with a pattern of thin ceramic cylinders placed on a steel framework, positioned one to two feet in front of the glass, from bottom to top. This curtain wall will permit a high degree of energy efficiency in heating and cooling the building, and will make it get a different color, according to the atmosphere: bluish after the rain, shimmering red at sunset."

BTW As a mater of interest, the double glazed white laminated glass on Sydney's Aurora Place Tower also has energy saving qualities. There are parallels to be drawn here with this and the NY Times Tower.

....

To be honest: It is big and tall, but for the Big Apple it is nothing special!

wow it's getting tall! Thanks for the update! I love the short interval between your updates! You are doing a good job for the NYC fans outside NYC who can't visit the projects, like me. Keep us updated till the top!

Btw, I hope the neighbour between 41 and 42nd street will be beautifull as well!
