^I think it's because it went past the 500 posts limit.
But what you can do is ask the mod that closes the thread to transfer this thread to the archive, that way the information will be safe there.

I've always wondered about the 500 post limit. Other forums that use the same VBulletin software have threads with more than 10,000 posts at times. I kinda like having everything put into one thread instead of finding the older "part" if you want to see older pictures.

Anyway, that's just my opinion and there's probably a good reason for the 500 post limit that I'm not aware of.

Apparently after the 500th post threads begin to slow down everything around them, that's what I've been told.
Actually I dislike those gigantic threads with hundreds of pages.

The NY Times Bldg: Designing for Energy Efficiency Through Daylighting Research (3)

A testbed for advanced daylighting

The transparent design of the New York Times building not only brings in daylight; it symbolizes the newspaper's mission to shed light on the life of the city and the nation.

The New York Times Company's engineering staff was seeking a set of integrated technologies that could effectively dim electric lighting and automatically deploy shading when appropriate, to take advantage of daylight benefits while providing comfort. They were unable to find a system on the market that they believed would meet their requirements.

David Thurm, Real Estate Vice President for the New York Times Company, says, "We were excited to find that LBNL's prior work was relevant to our project. As an owner/operator, our primary interest is ensuring that the working environment in our building meets the comfort needs of our employees. The solutions we are developing in the mockup will verify that the control systems and operating strategies will function effectively and provide the productive work environment needed by our employees under a wide range of climate conditions."

Selkowitz notes that "the New York Times, as a motivated and concerned owner, has provided us with a great opportunity to advance the use of daylighting as an energy efficiency strategy. In partnership with our team, lead by Eleanor Lee, they designed and have just completed a 4,500 square-foot south and west quadrant of one floor of the building on the grounds of their printing plant in College Point, New York. This full size mockup will allow us to demonstrate and test the key hardware, calibration and operational controls issues, allowing the team to specify a technological solution that meets both comfort and energy-saving goals."

Although it was originally intended to be a conventional furniture mockup in a dark warehouse, says Selkowitz, with its glass curtain wall and exterior shading "the test structure has become a working daylighting laboratory, complete with lighting controls and interior automated shading, as well as furniture and interior finishes, to solve a design challenge that has eluded building owners throughout the country."

to be continued...

I agree with Carlos - Tower NYC...When a thread is closed, it will sink, and never go up and up again. Nobody will read it, specially the underconstruction pic, if wanna see back by the timeline.

So many good articles will be missing around hundreds of thread.

Opening new and new thread will make more time for people to read and find, not well organized, and people will be lazy to find another previous thread.

For example: the thread Shanghai: World Financial Center, 492m (101 floors) (Part 5) >>> I never be able to find the part 1 or 2.. I don't know where...So I read the construction timeline like in the middle of story..

@CborG >>> Can you find me the thread Shanghai: World Financial Center, 492m (101 floors) Part 1, 2, 3?????? It's not on the list anymore. And gotta go to the first page of Part 4 to go to the Part 3, and go to the first page of Part 3 to find the Part 2. It's truly wasting time, not efficient, and not interesting at all.
I won't read the Part 1, 2, 3 if I have to find it like that way, specially if I'm not using hi-speed internet connection. WASTING TIME.

I think people hate to see good movie not from the beginning. Ordinary people always want to read everything from the beginning.

Also, some single thread in this forum already has 600 even 700 posts, and no one argues.

^google can easily find you anything you need.
As for the older threads, usually whenever someone creates a new thread he or she is supposed to give the link to the older thread.
And once again, the archive is a very good feature where you can find lots of info

@3tmk,
Politely, I would say that going to Google is not a brilliant idea. I've to put the exact same word on Google to find the part 1 of Shanghai WFC.
Shanghai: site:skyscrapercity.com World Financial Center, 492m (101 floors)
Otherwise, Google will show too many data.
If I'm not using the hi-speed internet (specially if you live in the developed nation), it will spend much time to find the specific data on Google.
Beside that, I even find another forum exactly the with the same topic because using the Google. This is not good for SSC forum. The thread on that forum about the NY Times Building already has 1191 posts.
People want everything fast in the speed of time and simple to find data among hundreds topics in a forum.
It's so simple to find from the beginning of the data in a thread in that forum, because they keep using the same topic. One topic on one thread.

The way it's usually done is that when part 2 is opened you link it to part one.
