49er Alumni,
As you have been out changing the world, UNC Charlotte has also been changing…exponentially. I wanted to make you aware of one of these important changes that involves campus housing.
Moore and Sanford Halls have been designated for replacement. After careful evaluation, University officials have determined the cost to renovate these long-standing and beloved residence halls is much higher than building a single, new modern facility. Moore Hall will be open for the fall 2018 semester and is scheduled for
demolition in January 2019. Sanford will remain open, with
demolition scheduled for fall 2022.
I know many of you have wonderful stories of your time in Moore and Sanford and we want to hear them. I invite you to share about your best memory at the Rathskeller, your favorite meal at RDH and even the best item you ever “lost” out the window.
In addition, watch for more information about a Sanford 5th floor reunion in May for residents from the mid- to late-70s. We will also have opportunities for you to tour Moore and Sanford halls during Homecoming Weekend next fall.
The new residence hall will continue to enhance the community-within-campus-community that South Village has become and will continue to fulfill UNC Charlotte’s promise to provide life-changing experiences for students.
The new facility is part of a wave of exciting, upcoming campus improvements including light rail at UNC Charlotte, a new recreation center and a new admissions and visitor’s center.
I welcome any feedback you may have and look forward to seeing you at an upcoming alumni event.
Sincerely,
Sallie Sistare
