James Street to Hamilton Square to be annoyingly accurate. It would have been quicker than the ferry, so I was told!

My 80th metro is Tbilisi

Very ugly and old stations with old trains and VERY loud ones. You can't even talk to a person who is standing next to you, worse, you can't even hear your own thoughts

What did surprise me the most was the way the trains were all clean.
The system itself isnt beautiful, nor new, but the trains have no scratches or graffitis.
If you compare the Rome metro train, which are ugly and dirty as hell, Tbilisi even with older trains is world class.

Definitely faster than the ferry - but if it's your first trip to Liverpool, I would take the ferry.

It's cleary visible, not in a positive way, that London tube is the oldest subway in the world. Size of the network is imposing anyway.

(Which means I've now been on the three oldest metros in the world!)

I've also been on suburban trains that run underground in:

Liverpool
Sydney
Melbourne

..and on trams that run underground in Dusseldorf.

I've also been to these cities without going on their metro systems, invariably because somebody else has been organising my transportation:

Montreal
Toronto
Washington DC
Berlin
Seville

What reminds me that, additionally to the metro cities I've visited, I've been to some more cities, but only before they got their rail transport systems. Too sad

Bangkok
Dubai
Leipzig (S-Bahn)
Seattle
Seville
Suzhou
Venice (PM)
Zurich (S-Bahn)

... and to some that'll still get their's in the future:
Honolulu
Jakarta
Macau

This could make for a new category...

Haha! That's true!

How about "I am going to be on" - I'm off to Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai so I'll have been on those three before the new year.

18.Yokohama
19.Daegu

@Falubaz, oh really, you've been visiting so many metros but not Moscow's? Shame on you!

Your stories remind me of some similar experiences.

Brescia: Recently I was on a train from Milan to Munich and had no idea Brescia was right on the way. When I discovered the station sign it was too late to get off.

Warsaw: Had to doze away 3 hours of my life in the transit area of Warsaw airport on my way to Bangkok, many years before the metro opened.

Calgary, Portland: passed them in a car but didn't have time.

Chiba, Kamakura, Tama: missed those when visiting Tokyo.

Marseille: landed and passed through, on to visit someone in Côte Azur, having no time.

Lausanne: probably passed by on a train.

Rennes: probably passed by in a car decades ago.

The Hague: was there but had no time.

Salt Lake City: once changed Greyhound buses there at night.
