(you might also count Mannheim/Ludwigshafen which is basically a tram system in the city closest to me but it features 4 active underground stations which I've all been to)

Thanks... actually this trip was rather on a budget, too. I assume you live in Holland (your name ), so why don't buy a 10-day interrail pass? You could sleep in Hostels, just one night per city and the good train connections would put you in the range of several metro-wise interesting cities (in France, Belgium, Germany, etc.)
