The Tories have not seen the country has really changed since then, people don't care about gay people, or MPs who are HIV+. They need to get across the message that they are not the nasty party anymore. So going on immigration and gypsies or anti-europe won't get them elected. They need to be nice.
But if we can get some new faces, or people of a different colour who have the ability talking about policy than that will give the right impression.

Whilst promoting racial tolerance etc is great, I don't want to see image and presentation put above policy any more than it is now.

Totally agree AndrewC, one of the reasons people are turned off politics is that our politicians are obsessed with focus groups and all the spin that goes with it.

I should have added, apart from getting some Tory MP's who are black and Asian some good solid policies along side them are a must.

Has anyone heard the politicians talking about transport in this election, I think if the Tories were offering a vision of public transport, of new trains, new trams and more support for green non fuel cars they would be getting votes etc.

Its not about what skin colour the candidates have that is important, but whether the party is offering an inclusive vision for the country, and not one for just the rich, or white, or native born, or straight, but they should be offering something for everyone in the country.

Yeha, i've been really suprised at the lack of transport debate this campaign. I found the transport policies on the Beeb online, but nothing else.

It wouldn't be an overiding factor but its such a vital issue, and yet ignored.

Yeah, i do hate people who come and 'heckle' (thinly disguised as questions) the guests and then don't really listen at all to answers.

CK came over pretty well I thought. Lots of hostility to Howard and his policies so far , the tories will probably accuse the BBC of loading the audience, Blair will probably get a hostile/sceptical reception from some too though.

I would have voted LibDem, simply coz I feel let down by Blair. However if I did that here we'd end up with a Tory. (Birmingham Edgbaston) Thats definately not what I want, and so I'll be supporting Labour again. Reluctantly, but what can you do?!

Well unfortunately that seems the case for many people. If it was a choice between letting the tories in or having to vote labour rather than lib dem I'd choose the latter one.
