I really like the roppongi hills development, but this office tower is just too fat 7/10 (only because of the facade and height)

Does anyone knwo the square footage of the entire building, and of the floorplates?

It seems like an absolutely hulking mass, which I don't really go for myself.

That's just a "cool" building. Nice original design. It took me a few seconds to figure out the building. Maybe a little too puggy, but all in all, not bad. 8/10

Very Japanese, relatively simple design but wonderful detailing on the facade, reeks of quality and thoughtful design. A building that huge could have looked very overbearing but this tower fits perfectly on the Tokyo skyline. Looks like it was designed by Sony :-)

That is one fat building! I quite like the colour. And it's not your typical KPF either. 8/10.

Gee, how wide are all these Tokyo skyscrapers??!!! I love it's facade with those different colours all over it, and it's round shape, but if only it was taller, and slightly slimmer.

8/10

There was a show on TV this week (Discovery Channel USA) about this building and project. Apparantly it was a big gamble looking into a future vision for Tokyo. They replaced 500 homes in the lowrise, traditional district with this project. Promising each homeowner a new, bigger, better apartment when finished. They razed the district and put up a completely self-supportive community. Those displaced then moved back in.

According to the show the Roppongi project is supposed to be an experimental vision for Tokyo's future. Fitting everything anyone could possibly need onto one small site with comprehensive transport links and thus allowing some very needed "open space" into a very crowded city. This explains the "fatness" of the main tower.

Apparantly the developers and architects are looking towards building more of these self-supported communities. On the show they described a 3000' foot version based on the same idea and discussed earthquake strength, cost and construction viability. Very interesting.

Kudos to the Japanese for thinking so forward to Tokyo's needs.

After having seen the details and vision behind this project I have to change my vote to 10/10!

It's world most expensive building equiped with latest technologies.
Excluding the labor, the building itself has costed more than 4 times Hong Kong tallest building,Union sqaure.
