Take into consideration FDI, office space demand, height limits, Indonesia's huge economy (member of the G20) and it's strategic position in Asia. Indonesia is not necessarily a 'poor' country, its growth is forecasted to be 6.2% for this year when other developing nations are experiencing negative growth, like Russia. A nation's GDP per capita is not the catalyst for deciding how tall or buildings can be.

Well, if this guy can't find a country as big as Indonesia on the map, he's really an American Idiot.

Indonesia is a very big country, the distance from the west (Sabang, Sumatera) to the east (Meurauke, Papua) is more than 5000 km.

It's approximately same with the distance from New York to Los Angeles.

well, biside Indonesia as a biggest economic in sout east asia (bigger than Singapore, thailand, malaysia, philippine), Indonesia also the biggest economy in the world number 17 base on gross domestic bruto (GDP). Indonesia's GDP is US$ 5600 Billion on 2008 (IMF, World Bank). and since 2008, Indonesia become a new member of G-20 within China, India, Russia, and Brazil. The tower should at least have good interior shemes and completed in a good quality, even it's not tallest, old fashioned or as not as planned as it is supposed to be. I think the tower is making some progress now.
