Actually it's pretty impressive for a city of only 400,000.

Yeah but those cities have a metropolitan area that's a lot larger. Minneapolis may technically be 400,000 but it has a metropolitan area of 3.5 million. London's metropolitan area is smaller than 450,000 and the city itself is like 360,000.

Exactly, city boundaries are rather meaningless. People should understand what is meant by the context of the sentence. The US Census estimated the population of those 'cities' in 2016 was as follows:

Minneapolis 3,551,036
Pittsburgh 2,342,299
Cincinnati 2,165,139

They're 4-7 times the size of London, Ontario while the City of Toronto went from 750,000 to 2,600,000 with the stroke of the pen. Even there, we all know that Toronto isn't a 'city' of 2.6 million. It only represents the jurisdiction over which the municipal government governs.

He was speaking of the metro population ignoramus. Those other cities are all in the millions in metro population. London is only 400,000 metro population.

The newest census states that London has 390,000 and metro 510,000 so by any stretch I think London is doing quite well in the skyline department.

London has a good mix of white and blue collar job as well as a large and prestigious university and college. London is a lovely and attractive city with fine old architecture, leafy streets, wonderful parks, a vibrant inner city, good restaurants & cafes, and very safe. Part of the legacy of London once being Canada's premier old wealth city.

Montreal has always topped London by a wide margin in that area.
