I love subjects of Defence but I am not a militarist. However, If I were one, this is the pic that I would try to have as my Avatar or use it in flame wars. I can't deny that I like it, it shows so many years of history in one shot.

Scary mothers.

I am surprised that these pics were drawn from many sources. i.e. NATO, your personal collections, etc. I want to thank Kuvvaci and Giorgos for sharing, and hope that this thread will NOT be the playground for yet another flame war.

And put some pictures of the Hellenic Air force, please.

Actually I didn't open this thread as a millitary subject. But it's directly a historical and documantery subject. So, you can regard it like this dear GM.

It shows almost all periods. Also, there are wars against us... I don't think there is a reason of a flame war with this thread. IMO pictures must be saved by visitors of the thread. I openned this thread because I like history.

Aye aye aye...

The new F-16's with the conforming fuel tanks, especially the ones where the aircraft are breaking formation. Thanks Prometheus!!!

Also, these pictures of Army of Alexander the Great with the long spears is un-be-friggin-lievable.

@ Kuvvaci

A friend of mine who is half German, anti-Nazi and leftist, told me exactly this, as we were going through one of the issues of "ptisi kai diastima" (flight and space) magazine:

"I may sound a schizohprenic but I like warplanes. I mean, I don't like what it does or can to, just like this machine with its aerodynamic shape and all the technology it incorporates".

The same pertains to me. I like combat simulators but I dont' like war per se. As long as we keep this in mind, we can enjoy some pics of airplanes, tanks and ships.

BTW, what is the premier air force magazine in Turkey? I would be curious to read one issue... For Greece it is Flight and space as mentioned above and second comes the "Anachaitisi" (interception) but I believe Ptisi is much better.

This is the last cover of "Ptisi" depicting a French Mirage 2000, ready for mid-air refuelling.

Αντε, ξεσαλώσαμε πάλι...

Er, in one of the pics above I see a small US aircraft carrier, probably the ones used by the US marines... Just for the record, we don't have those...

Also, pics from military exercises are unbelievably dramatic... I mean just look at the couple of the pics above with the Zhubr class hovercrafts (I hope I got the spelling right). I am not sure though whether these are Russian or Ukranian though, I think we bought them from the Ukraine.

Just for the record... I mean, the action pics are very dramatic, especially the ones with the manoevering F-16's. Who are the photographers? I mean, pulling all those G's and being able to hold the camera and take pics is really something...

in the picture under question, , I believe that the ship behind the light US Marines carrier is one of our MEKO 200 class frigates. I can see the helocopter hangar with an SH-70 navy chopper on it. Guys correct me if I am wrong.

And do not apologise, these pics are interesting. Ah guys don't make me start talking about defence matters and military planes too an top of architecture, It is too much of a thrill!!!

Something that I would like to point out here guys is that you can always edit your posts after you post them. I do this all the time, otherwise you would have seen unbelievable "patates" in my posts.

Also, Chicagogeorge, your images are amazing to say the least, unfortunately many of them cannot be seen. However they are accessible through their links, probably this site does not allow direct hotlinking.

Guys may I also suggest that when you are posting large images (above 800x600) could you please host them on image shack and make them 800x600?

Any larger and it ruins the thread.
