Yeah, that helps. I've never been to the United Arab Emirates but I was told from someone who has been there that in Dubai, they sell alcohol by the gallons, nightclubs are popular and women are beautiful. Then he said be careful about visiting Sharjha because alcohol consumtion is legal and looking at a woman the "wrong" way could lead to prison or death. I had the idea that the whole UAE was socially liberal but it was interesting for someone to tell me that one city is vastly socially liberal (Dubai) while the city next to it Sharjha is overwhemingly conservative. Very interesting if that's true. |

1) they take you for a few hours in a room where they will dress you like a woman and rape you (so we can not talk about prison it is just that they want to protect your private life) hence a 23% increase in american tourist to sharjha this year. 2) they don't kill you but they might just feed your penis to dogs, of course all the question is whether the dog is a pulldog or a small dog. my adivce to you will be to take a chiwawa with you in case they decide to punish you this way. if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask. |

Hungry traveller: Dubai
Tiffany Hancock Tiffany Hancock finds the best places to eat in Dubai. Breakfast Gerard's An established favourite, tucked away in a courtyard between two shopping centres, Gerard's was the first French patisserie to open in Dubai more than 13 years ago. Its charismatic French owner, Gerard, weaves between the tables greeting his regulars: a mixture of locals in dish-dashes and immaculately dressed expat wives. It's the place for a gossip over a croissant and orange juice. Gerard's, Magrudy Mall, Jumeirah beach Road (00971 4344 3327). Open daily. Pastries from 75p. Lunch The Beach Bar & Grill The Beach Bar & Grill This is in one of Dubai's loveliest and most stylish hotels, the Royal Mirage. Its idyllic setting takes a lot of beating, perched on a stretch of white sand lapped by turquoise waters. It's styled as an exclusive beach hut, with dark wooden decking, granite-topped tables, wrought-iron chairs and lanterns. The lunch menu is serious stuff - choose from oysters, lobster and rack of lamb - but don't miss out on a cocktail apéritif before you begin. Book in advance and ask for a table outside to take advantage of the view. The Beach Bar & Grill, Royal Mirage (4399 9999; www.royalmiragedubai.com). Open daily for lunch and dinner. Two-course lunch from £20. Snacks Lime Tree Café Set back from the marbled shopping malls of the Jumeirah Beach Road, the Lime Tree Café (far left) is very casual and has an antipodean vibe. Come here to chill out on one of the canvas banquettes and soak up the sun while Jack Johnson plays in the background. Like the lime-green façade and bright citrus interior, food is both fresh and colourful: home-made sandwiches, pastas, fruit smoothies and flapjacks are the order of the day. Lime Tree Café, close to Spinneys on the Jumeirah Beach Road (4349 8498). Open daily from 7.30am-6pm. Smoothies from £2. Dinner Bateaux Dubai No trip to Dubai is complete without a visit to the Creek by night, and a cruise on the Bateaux Dubai, launched last year, is the best way of seeing it. The boat is a beautiful vessel, with floor-to-ceiling anti-reflective glass and an open-air deck up top, while the gourmet French menu includes all the luxury staples such as foie gras and caviar. Bateaux Dubai docks alongside the British Embassy. It departs at 8pm and returns at 11pm (4399 4994; www.bateauxdubai.com). The four-course set menu costs £35 per person and includes a welcome drink. Book well ahead.

no but if ur on a visit visa
u can get a temporary license on the strength of ur US license for less than $3. a simple process, just take ur passport with ur visit visa stamp in it, and ur license to the traffic/licensing department, and can be done in no more than a couple of hours |
