>>>>>BRANDNEW MOVIETHEATER IN HCMC<<<<<
A brandnew cinema is anticipated to sooth down movieaddict's thirst on this coming up 20/05/05. The cine-complex is built by Thien Ngan Co. It's located underground of NGUYEN DU sport and fitness club building ( in district 1). It contains 3 huge theaters ( covers up 2.000 m²) , which provide over 1000 seats with up-to-date cinematic technology. The architecture of this cine-complex is designed analogous to those in America. ==> CineBox Co. had recently collaborated with Hoa Binh theater to transform it into a cine-multiplex which can serve over 4,000 moviegoers. Another movie theater is already planned and designed to be built on top of SAVICO building ( Dong Khoi blvd, district 1.) An Dong cinema ( which is supposed to be similar to Diamond cine-multiplex) is recently put into service, it's located right on top of An Dong plaza( district 5.).There's also a brandnew cinema at the BigC supermarket ( To Hien Thanh street) and another one at the Khaisilk building in Phu My Hung. SaigonSquare ( on Le Duan street) will be soon returned to its current owner, HCMC Postoffice, it's the site of a master cine-complex in the upcoming future. It will be designed and be built in Korean movietheater style. Last edited by proX; May 22nd, 2005 at 05:52 AM. |

Joint venture to open cinema complexes
Vietnam's Phuong Nam Co. and Envoy Partners Ltd. based in the British Virgin Islands have got the go-ahead for their joint venture to build cinemas in Vietnam.
The Megastar Media Joint Venture, which got a 25-year license from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, is capitalized at US$8 million, with the local partner holding a 20% stake and the foreign side the rest. The venture is due to open its first cinema complex at the Vincom City Towers in Hanoi in this year's third quarter. Located on the sixth floor, the complex will have eight cinemas with a total of 1,100 seats. In HCM City, the company will build a cinema complex at Hung Vuong Plaza at 126 Hung Vuong street in District 5. All together, Megastar Media will build eight complexes in Vietnam. A complex will house eight to 12 cinemas, seating a total of 1,500 people, a fast food restaurant, a game section, and a bookstore. The company also has permission to import movies into Vietnam. Megastar Media is the second joint venture in Vietnam to open cinemas and import movies after Diamond Cinema, a 10:90 joint venture between Fafilm Vietnam and Good Fellas, which has 37 cinemas in the Republic of Korea. Diamond Cinema has movie theatres in HCM City and Da Nang and will build more in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Can Tho, Da Lat and Quang Ninh. by vn-style |

The project seems ok for me,a bit too flashy for a cinema complex, but a "Korean movietheater style"?
.....Why always those korean stuffs overflow everywhere. We had Korean music, korean Insam resto, korean mobile, korean pop culture, korean E'zup, korean Taegukgi and Daejangum in all DVd stores, korean ice cream, korean hip-hop fashion...that's ok,i know its not only here, and cultural diversity is important but when ppl start talking about korean things and it becomes a hallmark of quality...hmm...u might have noticed vietnamese prejudges: made in japan-->good,made in china-->cheap and toxic, korean ice-cream-->delicious...etc. don't even care about products' names ,stereotypes!! while trademarks like H&M,starbucks,virgins,MacDo....where are they?Mayb government's policies to build an open market made them fleed hahah......Mayb its my immature statement.....but i would rather like to see an Imax in Saigon

Hmmm I love Dae Jang Geum now that you're mentioning it. I quite admire the Korean people and culture but not the Japanese (aggressive, warlike) and Chinese (greedy, expansionist).
Yeah I'll be cool to have an Imax, although they're not that popular. The one in my city (Sydney) is usually showing stuffs for tourists and little kids on excursions. |

An Dong plaza has An Dong cinema cine-multiplex??? I never heard that before. Where did you get these information? And SaigonSquare belong to Saigon Tourist, not HCMC Postoffice. And Saigon Square will be replaced by Kumho Saigon project. I need more proofs. But anyways, thanks ProX a lot. I really love to go to threater with my friends. |

YEAH, where's the Vietnam pride? We used to be the second richest country in south east asia (well Saigon to be specific) before the reunification of 1975, just only behind HongKong. That was the time when SIngapore used to a a poor fishing village, Korea was a poor country torned in war, and other places in asia are no where in comparasion. According to the American statistic of the 70s, the income of Saigon people used to be $1500.USD....Korea $80.USD hard to believe isn't? and Saigon Tan Son Nhat port was the busiest airport of all of asia. When many saigon intellects and the wealthy left the country they took over 1 billion USD with them oversea, lost at sea, lost to Thailand pirate......no wonder Vietnam became poor huh? poor and happy

![]() How you meant Tan Son Nhat were the busiest airport in asia? I think you have a really big "Saigon pride" .Just have to hope that Vietnam is able to catch up with other asian countries in the future .

maybe you're too young to know.......I didn't believe these things when I first heard them too, but if ya think about it......during the war,,,,,,,,,,,,there were haft a million american soldiers (500.000) in Vietnam (50.000) die in Vietnam.....there's a Vietnam memorial wall in Washinton DC with 50.000 names on them the last time I visited 4 years ago. Beside the 500.000 American soldiers, there were also soldiers of the alies countries......including a few thousands from Australia, South Korea... etc.......... Journalists from around the world, cargos, weapons transported to Vietnam government...........it was crazy... even the transport of soldiers, weapons, cargos, medical, food, for Cambodia had to go through Tan SOn Nhat airport before reaching Camobdia... So you do the math......... the airport was not the busiest in the sense of tourism, but because of the war..........so it was the busiest in a sad sad way As for the economy 500.000 soldiers ....(with US Dollars to spend in Saigon)......no matter where they fight in Vietnam, entering or leaving Vietnam...... they had to go to Tan Son Nhat airport......and passing by Saigon go on the internet and search the information see for yourself |

Sự năng động của những nhà kinh doanh điện ảnh đă lay "nàng công chúa" điện ảnh VN thức dậy sau một giấc ngủ dài. source:Thanhnien Online p/s: I'll try to get the English version of this article soon...so apology to those who can't read Vietnamese! peace out! Vietnam’s theatre, film firms re-invest profits in new sites
With major revenues generated from the growing popularity of the film industry in Vietnam, movie and film companies are moving to erect new complexes to meet the demand of the increasing number of movie-goers.
Moviegoers in Ho Chi Minh City now frequent existing high-grade cinemas like the Diamond Cinema, Dong Da, and Cinebox filling them to capacity, thus generating interest in building new venues. In the city, the Hoa Binh Theater is to be transformed into a new 2,300-seat cinema, while the Thien Ngan Film Studio’s new VND20 billion Galaxy cinema is set to screen its first films next month. The European-styled cinema includes 1,000 seats, a coffee bar, shops, and a beauty salon that covers a total area of 2000sq.m. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Phuong Nam Company and British Envoy Media Company are cooperating on the future construction of a series of Cineplex trademarked cinemas nationwide. The total investment for the Cineplex project is US$16 million, with the first $4 million cinema complex featuring 9 projection rooms, to be built by the end of 2005 in Hanoi. Paradox However a paradox exists in the fact that while joint-venture cinemas are experiencing growth, many state cinemas have digressed to become coffee shops, dance halls or restaurants. Ho Chi Minh City currently has 10 such ‘transformed’ state cinemas under the management of Ho Chi Minh City’s Cinematography Company. However, according to Mr. Le Van Tron – General Director of the Sai Gon Culture Company, due to profitability, the state cinemas adopted new business philosophies, which could change again if the popularity of the film industry continues. source: TNO |
