It's like my club Tottenham our support isn't as big as Liverpool and Man United but we are some where near the top in most supported clubs in the country. We of late haven't had any success in the past five years and know that 50,000 is the capacity that we can fill. From what I have read we have plans to make the stadium 54,000 http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/inde...ticle&sid=3614. Which I feel would be the max that Tottenham at this moment in time could fill, if Tottenham were to enjoy the same success that Arsenal and Man Utd have had lately then I think we could fil 65,000.
I'm not sure sucess is as much a factor in crowds as people make it out to be. Look at Man Utd in the 70's and the 80's for example where they won very little yet remained the best supported club in the country. What I think sucess does is earn you a generation of supporters who will most likely stick with you even if that sucess isnt repeated, you'll loose a few fair weather fans but I'd guess the vast majority of them don't go to games anyway.

New Anfield Update

Just seen this on bbc.co.uk

Quote:

Liverpool ground plan re-approved

The club plans to build a 60,000 seater stadium

Plans for Liverpool FC's new stadium have been re-approved by city councillors without any alterations to the original scheme.
Plans for the stadium in Stanley Park, next to its current Anfield ground, were first given the go-ahead by Liverpool City Council in 2005.

The club had to resubmit plans for the 60,000-seater ground to make sure they conformed to new planning laws.

The club is looking for investors to help fund the £160m venture.

Shareholders were told at the club's recent AGM that it could be four years before the stadium was completed.

It looks like a mix between Old Trafford and Bolton's Reebok Stadium.

The Reebok...

They need a new design or they might as well stay at Anfield; at least Anfield has some originality.

It's a great design, but the pitch looks quite far away from the seats, where it curves round.

no i definately think that building a new stadium would be good for liverpool. There is no space around anfield.
2005, are you talking attendances or armchair fans? You forget that transport links have a big part to play as though there are many liverpool fans up and down the country, there are not enough in the city of liverpool to fill a bigger ground every week

I also think the £160m price tag is going to be wrong, more like £230-250m in total, if you include Anfield Plaza and landscaping Stanley Park

I hope Liverpool can bring the league title again to Anfield before moving to the new stadium

Everton were kicked out after a dispute over rent...and the owner of the stadium decided to start he own team...Liverpool!
That's a bit revisionist Eddy!
Everton were the league champions that season, and that snidey shitehawk Houlding wanted to double the rent to pay for 'improvements'. The majority of the board told him to do one, and they crossed the park to buy Mere Green, which they turned into the world first major football stadium, Goodison Park.

After that, Houlding spat his dummy and formed his own club, which was also called Everton for a very brief period. He was forced to change it, and decided upon Liverpool- although not after a heated dispute with Liverpool Rugby Club.

I'd be interested to know when Liverpool actually took up ownership of the stadium. Was it immediate, or did they have a landlord/tenant relationship with Houlding?
