Except at interchange stations why would you want an island platform anyway? Considering most stations in Lisbon are not interchanges it makes sense to have side platforms.

Well, it simplifies the pedestrian flow, also, in case of deap stations, it minimises the volume of works.

Besides when u have side platforms you have to walk a lot when u get to the wrong one. with island platforms there isnt such problem.

Awswsome for sure but watch your belongs as the 28 is the number 1 place in Lisbon for pick pockets and thieves, no doubt due to all the tourists paying attention outside rather than to their belongings.

Tram 28 Route

It's surprising how in such a popular tourist route there is no map or diagram of all the stops inside the trams. Many end up not knowing what they're seeing or what they could find nearby. Not even guidebooks provide that information. This is a useful source: Tram 28. It should also be noted that the 28 also has a shorter route, only going between the Estrela basilica and the Graça neighborhood.

There is an offical announcement, the extension of the Red line to the airport opens tomorrow, Tuesday, July 17, at 6:30 am Lisbon time.

New Airport Extension

Quote:
The new subway stations of the red line – Moscavide, Encarnação and Aeroporto – are open for service tomorrow, the 17th july. The extension of the red line between Oriente/Aeroporto has 3326 meters and three new stations, with a estimate mensal value of new passengers around 400 thousand passengers/year.

This enterprise will have a significant impact on the accessibilities to and from the Lisbon International Airport, constituting an important interface for the passengers of the air transport and for the generality of the people that work in that area.

By the other hand, it also serves the residential areas of Moscavide and Olivais (around 7% of the total population of the Lisbon city lives in Olivais area).

The three new stations will allow a significant reduction of the CO2 emissions, in about 5 thousand tonnes/year.

With this new connection it will the possible to travel from the city administrative center (Saldanha) to the Lisbon International Airport in 16 minutes.

Take the subway.

It isn't. According to the statements of the company's president today, the tunnel is done, but requests for tender to finish the station and exteriors will be launched only in 2013.
