For me, there are several WOW skylines that are near impossible to choose from. However, I'm going with Chicago. Why? A few factors:

The linear layout of the skyline, unique among all others. While New York has its clusters, Hong Kong has its rows of buildings along its multiple shores, and others tend have vast expanses of highrises, Chicago builds its buildings smack along the lake--and almost nowhere else, meaning a line of tall buildings a good seven miles long along the lake without major gaps.

Also, the big three--Sears, Aon/Trump, Hancock--provide clear peaks in the skyline that reveal something of the character of the city, with Sears lording over the financial Loop, the Aon/Trump cluster marking where Michigan Avenue, the corner of the Loop, and the river come together, and Hancock marking the pinnacle of the Magnificent Mile. The contrast between the line of skyscrapers and the vast, two and three story neighborhoods makes the skyline all that more striking, as it seems to soar above the table-flat urban landscape, instead of hidden by hills and mountains. Chicago also created the modern skyscraper, so the historical significance of its skyline is a bonus.

Finally, on a clear night and the lights reflect off the lake, that vast shimmering virtual city in the inky blackness is one of the most beautiful sights a city can give.

the political boundaries of the mini cities within Manila.. are well.. mostly just political since some CBDs like the Ortigas CBD is right in the middle of 4 different cities in MM

---------

just a dozen or so of Manila..

Then we come to the 3rd division with small but yet beautiful skylines such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, San Fransisco, Toronto etc.

4th division are skylines that are OK but too small to play with the 3rd division. London, Moscow, Paris, Frankfurt etc fits in there.
Why would you put Bangkok with Chicago, Dubai? I'd say put Singapore or Kuala Lumpur in its place.

I think people can recognize KL more than they can recognize Bangkok mainly because of the iconic Twin Towers and KL Tower..

some people argue that KL is over-rated because without these supertalls KL would seem dull, which is a lame argument because KL's iconic supertalls are there to stay and they're going nowhere!

example:
when you show a picture of Bangkok to a person and asked him to name the city, the person would say something like:

" Well it's a huge city with massive skyline.. oh wait, I know these towers.. this must be Bangkok!"

but when you show a picture of KL the person will immediately say: "Duhhh.. It's Koala Lumpah for sure.."

.

yeah.. I know what you mean.. they thought of Malaysia the same way too (typical westerners always undermine Asians).. Bangkok is massive and all it needs is a couple of iconic scrapers.. meanwhile KL imo as it is now is nowhere near the best skyline or top 10.. but there's a lot of room for improvement on the way..
