The Empire State and Chrysler Buildings are more known than The Burj or The Jin Mao.

New York is not just Manhattan. There are also developments happening in it's outer boroughs like Brooklyn and Queens.
yes, they are more famous because they've been already there for 60 yrs. I personally love them and I have no opinions on NYC. but like you said they are well developed in 1940s-1970s so there's not much room for a jump. On the other side, you can see, SH and Dubai are booming...

Don't talk Brooklyn and Queens about Skyscrapers, even New Yorkers are sorry to mention them

Jersey City is probably the most active skyscraper development zone in the New York area outside Manhattan.

Very true. The Goldman Sachs reminds me alot of the IFC since it's by the same architect.

It's actually quite amazing how quickly the density drops outside Manhattan. New Jersey looks quite empty but there is a small skyline in Brooklyn. Queens has a lonely green skyscraper.

There was a thread I created months back on the New York section about any urban developments happening outside Manhattan.

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=307939

There are but mostly low-rises. That picture of Queens, it' would be nice to see an urban development right in that big piece of land right where the Pepsi sign is at.

There are a number of plans to redevelop areas around the water's edge outside Manhattan, but a lot of them relate to public spaces rather than skyscrapers.

Brooklyn Waterfront Park
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=162947

Governors Island
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=318453

Coney Island
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=209624

I wonder whether the Vancouver effect will take hold in these prime sites. The view of Manhattan's skyline is great from a lot of these areas.

These area will provide great views of Manhattan's skyline but I like it would be better if they combine the parks with some residential or office high-rises.

Obviously you've never been to New York. It's much, much more than just Manhattan. Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx are every bit as interesting. In fact, I prefer Brooklyn to Manhattan. Clearly you have something against NY, either that or you're jealous.

Umm, I think you misunderstood me. Either that, or you just have no idea what you're talking about, because I certainly don't.

Sydney has a nice waterfront setting, with a very nice view from the residentials on the other side of the harbour bridge.

1) New York - by far
2) Sydney
3) Toronto

Sydney & Toronto are pretty competetive, but unfortunately Toronto only has the CN tower and that is not unique, so Sydney!
