Sydney & Toronto are pretty competetive, but unfortunately Toronto only has the CN tower and that is not unique, so Sydney!

Why is it that today's skyline trend is shifting to Asia?

Well, actually, most of Asian countries are developing countries. They have to build and build things to develop their countries.

Or skyscrapers can be the sign of economic development especially in Asian countries.

Also probably because Asian cities are becoming overcrowded and one way to house them is to build up.

True but also the no. of people moving in from other Asian cities. HK for example has a huge no. of Filipino and Nepalese immigrants living and working there. In fact there's alot of Nigerians coming in too. This trend is also happening in other Asian cities like Singapore or Bangkok. Bangkok for example has alot of people moving in from neighboring Indochinese countries like Cambodia or Laos.

Anyway, there still the trend of building skyscrapers over 300 m in most Asian cities. Bangkok has one, KL has one. Even Taipei which is not much of a skyscraper city has the world's tallest

As for the US, the skyscraper boom isn't as active as it used to be especially supertalls. New York and Chicago are some of the exceptions.
