I hate the design of most of Dubai's towers, but a few of them are just incredible.

Ok thanks. I thought so, but wasn't 100% sure. So that's the old Pan Am building to the left in the distance.

2 super talls planned where that 25 storey beige building is located to the right of the CN Tower, then another 17 buildings in this frame over 200m.

Wish they could tunnel those trian tracks and build over top of them. That ugly divide is my least favorite part of Toronto's urban structure

Agree, but it's getting trickier to contemplate burying the tracks with each new building that goes up next to it. It's almost accepted that we're stuck with it permanently at this point. That said, it's set to look a whole lot better in a hurry: Oxford and the new rail shed.

The Oxford proposal was not contingent on approval of the casino and is still an active proposal. The proposal involves decking over 2 big blocks of the rail line with an urban park. Toronto needs the office space, an enlarged convention centre, and another hotel to replace the one that would be knocked down. So there's a great deal of impetus to make it happen.

The Union Station expansion/renovation will include a new rail shed with green roof. You can see in the photo a few posts up that the new rail shed is already starting to take shape. This and Oxford's planned park will go a long way to mitigate against the rail lines in the downtown. Perhaps more of this type of thing will be proposed over time.
