Jakarta - sorry if repost, this is the clearest aerial pic that show most of the city's skycrappers and skyline.

The Miami skyline is going to change radically in just the next 5 years, let alone 50. I love that aerial above, but many of those spaces are going to fill in over the next few years and it will look even better.

I don't think this is a repost, but it is just the type of shot I think belongs on this thread because it really shows how big the skyline is.

Wow, there's such a cool transition from the scenic autumnal nature in the foreground slowly to the radical and futuristic Toronto skyline :o

I so agree!! I've tried several times in the past to post unusual shots of Singapore skyline but it's like they hardly exist. Photos from the north and central part of the island are quite rare in comparison to the usual harbour shots. It's like the Singapore government has banned them for some reason......

But that doesn't explain why they look identical. You can accomplish the same thing without using the same design over and over and over, no?

Hmm well the new residential town like in Sengkang and Punggol do have different designs.

however for those built in 70s to 90s really look identical
guess they are saving money on architects??

Maybe to the real answer was because due to land shortages, after went through the independence, the government was troubled by the poor estates living condition and rural housings in singapore as back then singapore was a 3rd world country or still in developing state, so in order to solve the problem, government introduced public housing which is called Housing Development Board (HDB) which remain affordable to everyone.

People were forced to move from landed to subsidized flats. Probably due to instant problem solving, government decided to build simple flats and these flats didn't have lifts or some of them do have in certain floors. So that time they focus on quantity instead of quality which could explain why most of them look identical.

But now HDBs are well plan and design and in recent years government introduced premium flats just like pinnacle @duxton. The new HDB flats also has nice different designs and it can match or compete with the private condominium designs in Singapore.

I think another reason could be the government controlling the land here so they do the decision what and which to build, so could be another reason why they look identical. Unlike other cities whereby theres no restriction in what to build and how tall it should be built.

Maybe if you look into a good differentiated skyline, i would sugges to look at singapore CBD only

The Singapore CBD looks great, but I can't say I'm a fan of those residential blocks beyond it.

Why do houses and flats/condos/apartments in the suburbs of most cities look the same? Because their main purpose is house the masses in the most practical and affordable way possible. Same thing. If you want more expensive, fancier high rises that make a statement, you'll find plenty in the central CBD where the image of the city is sold.

I could think of some North American cities where in the suburbs you have identical blocks of apartments grouped together in clusters. Actually it happens in just about every other city. It's the same thing in Singapore, except that there's maybe more of them and they're more tightly packed.

That would make a very nice banner. Did you submit that?
