If Hong Kong is Asia's New York, the Shenzhen must be Asia's Chicago

I think maybe Guangzhou is getting closer to Chicago. Shenzhen I think is going to leave Chicago behind.

Shenzhen is gonna overtake Chicago within a year, at most, and can rival New York within 10 years, if Baishizhou, Qianhai etc projects are approved

Thanks for posting a great picture of Bangkok from a perspective we've not seen before. It's very Blade Runner-esque

Skyline aside, Chongqing is a better match for Chicago. They're both large inland cities that act as a regional hub between east and west. Then again, Chongqing's skyline isn't all that far behind these days.

"Manhattan is almost fully developed so in the coming years we will see more skyscrapers move to areas like Brooklyn and New Jersey."

That area between Downtown and Midtown around SoHo has lots of low level to midrise building. Need to fill up that gap.

Isn't that stretch between downtown and midtown protected to a large degree? We would have seen skyscrapers there a long time ago if it weren't.

My understanding is that the bedrock between midtown and downtown runs very deep, which makes building skyscrapers in that part of Manhattan unfeasible.

I don't think it is a bedrock [feasibility] issue. I think it has more to do with zoning, historical neighborhoods, and NIMBY's. It would be nice if someone from the Big Apple could elaborate on this matter.

Not if the spire gets built though

Obviously not definite but if it happens Chicago is going nowhere

If Hong Kong is Asia's New York and Shenzhen is Asia's Chicago maybe Guangzhou could be considered Asia's Toronto. Three skylines that today are comparable to or even exceeding some of the largest skylines in the world. Dongguan is also constructing a kickass cluster, its insane to think that all these skylines cluster within 100 km of each others and are part of the same totally continuous urban area.
