Some people like the Chicago skyline better than New York's even though it's twice as big.

New York definitely has a strong advantage of vintage art-deco skyscrapers but it's skyline is no longer the best.

Asia is now at the front, for sure.

I dont think so... quality wise, aisan cities are nowhere near new york. Asian cities are vast, dense and "tall" but in terms of quality, new york is still a benchmark. Pretending these cities were people, the big Apple would stand out as the most well groomed.

I think in term of Quality, chinese cities and Dubai has them.

In my definition, quality is the design of the building as well as the height. If you see dubai and chinese cities have huge skyscrapers with glassy facade and spectacular designs.

I would say New York is the past, vintage, history and classic skyline

And for Shanghai is the futuristic, modern, stylish and new era of skyline

If talking about density it would be the quantity

Some people here act like New York is standing still. Wake up! New York has about 30 supertalls in the pipeline, only second to Shenzhen (which is a developing city).

Ignorance at its best.

What I am saying about the current skyline not best skyline in 2025. Moreover even with 30 supertalls, though its massive but it will still under the category of classic skyline as u cant change those classic buildings unless u demolish them. But then its the icon of New York.

I never say NY is bad neither i said Shanghai better than them. It depends on one perspectives, whether they like futuristic skyline or classic skyline. For me I loke New York as its skyline is like no others

New York will be ahead of Shenzhen unless Shenzhen builds at least 50 supertalls to compensate for the lack of density. New York far more dense than Shenzhen, so I don't see NYC getting knocked off the no.1 spot for the next 15 years at least

If we consider Manhattan thoroughly, we will find lots of commies that are way worse than those in China or Hong Kong.

Again, NY has some awesome art-deco building, each of them is a masterpiece. However, the whole skyline is now just one of many, and very likely not on the shortlist.

Don't forget that Shenzhen is not No 1 in China or even in Asia. And it IS dense. Manhattan is not all in all dense, just parts of it are. And the whole NY city is not ALL dense. While Shenzhen is almost all dense and tall.

Because? What more do you want from New York? The city has it all.
"One of many", "not on the shortlist" ...

The tall buildings in Shenzhen are too spread out, one supertall could be around 15 kilometer away from the other. That doesn't make a good impact on the skyline. That's why a city needs to have core areas where most of the tall buildings are concentrated. Only Luohu district in Shenzhen can be considered dense. Futian has huge gap between each building, not to mention the huge Shennan avenue that goes through the CBD, and the convention center in the middle of CBD. I really like Shenzhen's city planning, probably the best in China and one of the best in the world. But the city planning is not skyline friendly. If Shenzhen didn't have so many supertalls U/C, most would put it out of 10.

I won't argue about the quality of architecture, because that's purely subjective which will vary by region. But objective part can surely be discussed, and Manhattan has clearly edge over any of Shenzhen's CBD
