It's better to look at Tokyo as a bunch of individual skylines rather than one single one. The pic I posted on the other page is how far away you have to go to try to get a single "Tokyo skyline". The ones above are just a few of the skylines, there's several individual clusters around the main train stations.

For example if someone posts this pic: http://i.imgur.com/nhdoro3.jpg

It's much better to just say "Shinjuku skyline" than saying "Tokyo". For example compare it to the Tokyo bay pic, it is totally different and in completely different area.

I completely understand what you say..

same thing with Manila.. with multiple CBDs with its own skylines/clusters (Makati, Ortigas, Fort Bonifacio, Manila bay etc...) ..
The only way to view the entire Metro Skyline is to get really far.

But of course, since we are talking about world's best.. it's better to view the entire picture... rather than smaller individual clusters.

Tokyo is just massive. The view from the Skytree is just breathtaking. All you see is buildings. Skyline wise, it's not anything that stands out like HK or NY. But it wins a hell of a lot of points for its immensity.

By the way , Tokyo is going to get a new cluster around Shibuya Station by 2027 and maybe another one in shinagawa with the planned Shinagawa Station , and Tokyo is densifying and developing it's skyline by buildings dozens of highrises every year !

Hopefully, Tokyo will start building 300m+ buildings. Tokyo needs a supertall revolution.

What is the issue there, earthquake safety? Then, on what basis would they start building supertalls?

BKK has more beautiful skyscrapers compared to Tokyo?? hmmmm....
that is very much debatable..

what BKK has advantage over Tokyo for sure is Height.. but other than that... hard to say..
Tokyo wins with impression... easy to understand why.

I've always though of BKK as the smaller version of Tokyo..
Somehow i feel that the skyline of tokyo may not be as beautiful as bkk, would rather say tokyo skyline look like seoul which is quite dull. I believe that tokyo has great density and its low rise building indeed amaze me but for skyline still has difficulty to break into top 10.

My top 10

1 HK
2 NY
3 SHANGHAI
4 SINGAPORE (sorry abit bias but should be in top 10 )
5 CHICAGO
6 DUBAI
7 KL
8 GUANGZHOU
9 TORONTO
10 BANGKOK/shenzhen

I agree with Jim

The immensity of Tokyo is absolutely overwhelming, which itself is already a big big plus in giving an impression.

BKK whenever i see a picture here feels like... nadaaaaahh.... (thanks to the spammers )
I'd pick KL anytime over BKK.

You should post those plans in the "best skyline in 2025" thread!

Korek. Bangkok shots that have been posted here are/looks over-enhanced or over-edited. And I do not think the city has this height advantage over tokyo infact the former's skyline hasn't even reached halfway of the latter's.

And oh I forgot, being over-exposed, bangkok already lost the "wow" factor at least for me.

It is a matter of taste, sure, but what amaze does it really have?

I like the second picture though a lot. But this is not an impressive skyline overall.

My humble opinion

I like non-chaotic skylines, therefore I will disregard most of the asian skylines and even european ones.

Having said that, the world's top skyline belongs to Chicago according to my list of best skylines in the world.

CHICAGO

And, as I love my city, I will add one small image of Buenos Aires skyline, even though its skyline is a little bit chaotic.

BUENOS AIRES (Little old picture)

I don't like it either. It's looks good for a small and short skyline. But nothing impressive or exceptional
