New York and Hong Kong have insane density...I don't see any other city being as dense as HK or NYC in the next 20 years

Too bad Hong Kong skyline has become stagnant and getting left behind in amount of supertalls...

I agree. Personally, I think that Hong Kong has the world's best skyline. However, that can't possibly remain true for too long at the rate some other cities are constructing.

Downtown Toronto expanding east to the Don River. In the foreground rises the Pan American Games village. Toronto will be hosting the event next summer.

Hong Kong and Shenzhen have those giant green mountains behind them. And Hong Kong furthermore has the water. It's hard to top a skyline that has those photogenic qualities, much less two places with half a dozen or more supertalls each.

I'd say the rankings today are:
In parentheses are the number of supertalls completed or T/O according to ZZ-II's awesome list: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1587254

1. Hong Kong (by far - the neon, the water, the colorful lights, the sleek designs, the height, the density, the friggin density!, the mountains)
Supertalls: 6

2. New York (timeless icons, the Art Deco jewels of Chrysler and Empire State, the contrast of old meets new, the melange of architectural styles, the density, the diversity in materials, cladding, designs, etc)
Supertalls: 6

[Imagine a giant gap here]

3. Shanghai
Advice: More supertalls, better quality for lowrises
Supertalls: 3 (not incl. Shanghai Tower nearly T/O)

4. Chicago
Advice: Start building again!
Supertalls: 6

5. Shenzhen
Advice: Quantity does not equal quantity. Don't replicate Dubai
Supertalls: 4

6. Guangzhou
Advice: idk much about this city so I'll say see #5
Supertalls: 7

7. Tokyo
Advice: higher and higher
Supertalls: 0

8. Dubai
Advice: Take a deep breath and place any proposed tower in Disneyland Orlando. If it looks like it'll fit in, DO NOT build it.
Supertalls: 19

9. Singapore
Advice: Height. Quality is superb but nobody can take you seriously without even 1 supertall
Supertalls: 0

10. Kuala Lumpur
Advice: Better marketing! The city has an amazing skyline but doesn't seem to get the attention.
Supertalls: 3

I think you'll find that quantity does, in fact, equal quantity.
But yeah I agree with you for the most part there; great list. I'd make a few changes personally, such as Guangzhou being currently higher than Shenzhen (although this will change very soon at the rate Shenzhen's constructing at), but overall well said!

Guangzhou does have a better skyline than Shenzhen, I agree. Especially at night. But I give major brownie points for setting and Shenzhen's setting always has those beautiful mountains (Tanglangshan?) that puts it ahead of Guangzhou.

Chongqing has many slum housing, never consider them in top 10, would rather put Bangkok, Singapore, Panama City and Sydney
