1. HK (Tacky somewhat during the day, but absolutely beautiful at night)
2. Chicago
3. New York (9/11...Need I say more...)
4. Singapore
5. Vancouver (Completely under the radar)
6. Kuala Lumpur
7. Shanghai
8. Manila
9. Toronto
10. Melbourne

During the day, Hong Kong would drop down to 4, Vancouver would move up to number 1, and Seattle would appear and replace Pittsburgh.
Tell me what you think.
we have the same top 2. hk is definitely number 1 while chicago is close by 2. my third though would be shanghai then newyork. 5. singapore 6. kl 7. chongqing 8. vancouver 9. sydney 10. tokyo.

for ur list, it's just weird seeing manila on the list because although the place has a nice skyline, it's just not on par with the 'world's best', i mean there's sydney, shenzen, calgary, montreal, however, it's really about personal preference though.

At the street level, Vancouver is very Asian. However, from the skyline, its residentials are very glassy, and look hardly Asian, although quite a number of them are funded by HK investors.

i actually thought the skyline looked asian lol. or maybe it was just because of the mountains, coz when i think of american cities, i dnt really think of glassy buildings.

The key difference I see in Vancouver is the lack of supertall public housing, which tend to have concrete exteriors. Vancouver's whole skyline, not just the downtown, seems dominated by glassy private residentials.

NO city comes next to NYC! NYC's skyline can be visible day and night. Unlike HK, only at night.

it's a question of geography:

1. NYC - best skyline (variety, history, and the big gap between midtown and downtown where there's few high rises, because the ground isn't good for building them, makes downtown and midtown more dramatic and impressive. throw in Brooklyn, Jersey City, the Bronx, and even some of Queens.

2. Hong Kong - best cluster/skyscraper forest - nature of the bay/parts being too separate makes it not as impressive of a skyline; the mountains, while dramatic, make it less of a "skyline."

both are gorgeous cities.

rest of my top 5:

3. Chicago - crazy height, nice and tight cluster, history
4. Shanghai - history, style, but like HK, more of a cluster
5. Dubai - could easily be #1 in a decade or two; it is a sky_line_ with nice design

best of the rest:

Singapore
Bangkok
Atlanta
Seattle
Philadelphia

IMO, every country have the skyscrapers city eg Manila and Chicago...what differentiate preference is that city should have one distinguish building to anchor the whole cityscape like HK wif Bank of China, NY wif Empire Building or Dubai Burj or Kuala Lumpur Petronas....thats why city like Sao Paolo or Manila or Chicago lacks

Hmm. Sao Paolo? Fine. Manila? Once again, fine.

But Chicago? A lack of a signature tower? There's this massive skyscraper called Sears Tower. It was the world's tallest for 30 years up until '97. Im guessing youve never seen pictures of Chicago.

Sears tower? I actually like Chicago's skyline better than NYC's.

Chicago's skyline is impressive though I think NY is better.

One the Chicago Spire is built the city will have another landmark scraper

With the case of Manila they have the PBCom Tower which is the tallest in the city but I don't find it that impressive compared to greats such as the BoC or ESB.

But there are two supertalls planned for the city one in Makati and the other in Ortigas

An anchor skyscraper ... it's a bit ironic that while people talk about very tall buildings as having a landmark effect on the skyline, yet I hear BoC come up for Hong Kong even though 2 IFC is far more landmark and prominent.

I'm beginning to like NYC more and more now. It certainly has more substance than any other skyline in the world. Why? Because no matter where you look or where you zoom in there's always something interesting to look at

I think he's got it! Too bad that opinion is not shared as glass and gaunt take over people's interest. Times change.. it's good to change with them while having that extra ounce of yesterday not too many will ever have. Chicago + NY+ Paris+ Shanghai+ London+ San Francisco + maybe Toronto can all share that quality..

Between the 2-IFC and BoC, the later is more the landmark scraper for HK.

Ok the 2-IFC is easier seen on the HK waterfront and has a unique location. It is also taller than the BoC but the BoC is more symbolic as an HK scraper.

On the other hand, Central Plaza was the tallest in HK before the 2-IFC was finished but didn't get much recognition compared to the other two.
