We all have our opinions on which skyline is the best and definitely you know what mine is

But I really like those aerial shots. Especially when you see urbanity in the foreground and hills on the background.

I really wish I could do the helicopter tour before I left New York. That baseball player crash in the Upper East Side really put the nail in my plans.

well,i'd say NYC has the best skyline in the world. Hong Kong's skyline is modern and great, but NYC's skyline is made up of historical buildings next to modern buildings, and small lofts and apartments of importance in between. Since 9.11, NYC has been renovating, It's not the same city as it was if you visited it 5-6 years ago, I went to the city about 15 days ago on a field trip and I was amazed at it's life and skyscrapers, Here are some pictures I took on the trip:

This is the only thing I'm gonna say. I decided to change my Japan trip to Dec and decided to go to the US at the end of June. One of my plan is to picture Manhattan skyline from the Top of the Rock. I want to chance the Empire State Building with the red, white and blue lighting. Hope this is the right time.

Top of the Rock, NYC

Probably one of the better views of New York with 3 levels of observation areas plus space for tripods and such.

Indeed I do. And HK will look even better once ICC is finished. ICC is my favorite building currently under construction, and 2IFC is my favorite building of all time. Having those two at each side of the harbor will be truly stunning.

This is a very common misconception about Hong Kong. In fact, there are still a number of villages in the outskirts that have buildings that date back several hundred years. These villages have several centuries of history and have survived to today. In fact, they're still inhabited by the descendants.

Here is one in Kam Tin in the New Territories :

These village buildings are much older than those first New York skyscrapers.

I enjoy well proportioned skylines with definitive focal peaks. Chicago gets this done the best, I think, but I also like Hong Kong's as well. The only thing I have against Hong Kong is that there are too many identical towers that share a podium - you know what I'm talking about? It kind of detracts from the skyline when there's a bunch of copied buildings over and over again - one reason places like Dubai just don't get it done.

Hong Kong's main skyline has virtually none of that type of development.

The podium concept is used for residential complexes, and are common in the secondary / suburban skylines. As Hong Kong property projects are much larger in scale rather than individual towers (these are mostly confined to urban redevelopments), it's fairly common to see a bunch of buildings pop up above a shopping mall / transit terminal podium.

New York's skyline is viciously bland. Very monotone, very simple. I like Chicago for its diverse range of buildings, and Hong Kong's diverse set as well as its sea of skyscrapers.

NYC is too old... HK or Tokyo, the best skyline in the world.
