Calgary, Alberta

It's not yet one of the world's best skylines, but it might get there one day. Calgary goes through booms and busts, but always seems to grow quickly decade after decade.

Montreal, Quebec

Montreal used to have one of the world's best skylines. It's flat lined with next to no change in 25 years but things are finally heating up again. Maybe it can get there again one day.

My top 10 World's Best Skylines.

1. New York City - "classic" skyline, the most recognizeable in the world, extremely dense, very balanced, coherent, great historical skyscrapers and high quality modern designs, well excepts for 432 Avenue... hopefully it will look better when the new projects are finished and it won't be so dominant anymore

1. Hong Kong - imo still on par with NYC though obviously it will be behind very soon. Even more highrises and skyscrapers than NYC, just as dense, maybe not as diverse but clearly more futuristic and cyber punk.

3. Shanghai - while Pudong is absolutely astonishing and the Shanghai Tower, Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai WFC all are iconic on their own and they stay one close to each other the rest of skyline is quite unremarkable - really messy and not properly planned so I think for now it can't contest the top two cities.

4. Dubai - great height, the tallest building in the world, but excepts for some towers the quality is not so consistent, some skyscrapers are just plain ugly and look plastic, also except for maybe Dubai Marina the city has a really messy planning. In top 5 mostly because of the raw height.

5. Chicago - classic, harmonic North American skyline, pretty tall - still doesn't really seem to lag behind Asia in that regard, great diversity and historical architecture just like in NYC, and obviously iconic Willis Towers. It has arguably the best silhoutte in the world.

6. Guangzhou - CTF and IFC are absolutely great pieces of skyscraper - tall, large, impresive, monolithic. Great waterfront but not necessarily as good from the other angles, and besides the main cluster which itself isn't quite dense it's pretty much mostly typical Chinese highrise condos.

7. Toronto - another great example of a North American skyline. Well planned, and despite the main skyline goes along the river it has a great waterfront. Even though I admire it's beauty it's certainly worse than both NYC and Chicago and can't offer jaw dropping heights like the Asian giants.

8. Shenzhen - kind of ... wasted potential - atleast for now. Impressive(and rapidly growing) amount of supertalls doesn't compensate for the fact that they are too far from each other to form any decent cluster and stay lonely in an ocean of the typical Chinese highrise condos.

9. Singapore - great aesthetics, very well balanced, looks clean and modern but it's really short(and probably small too) compared to the other cities on this list. I really appreciate it's architecture though - I think Singapore is one of the most beautiful cities in the world when it comes to modern architecture.

10. Kuala Lumpur - iconic, recognizeable worldwide Petronas Towers with nice and pretty tall surroundings. The overall quality is kind of lackluster though - without Petronas it would never make it to my top 10.

Honorable mentions: Bangkok, Chongqing, Manila, Jakarta, Doha

I love that they thought to paint something on the roof of the aquarium. I'm sure lots of tourists to the CN Tower see those sharks painted on the roof and end up visiting that too.

Although the high rise development in Yorkville has greatly expanded the skyline beyond the traditional CBD, it's also highlighted how much construction is needed before it all fills in.
