As it stands, Toronto has about half the skyline of Chicago. If all its current proposals go through, it will have 2/3-3/4 the skyline. Heres to hoping the development continues!

Nice to hear words of encouragement from our Great Lakes neighbour. That said, according to the SSP database the gap might close completely. I'll use 'roof height' as it's a more accurate representation of height as it negates antennas and spires. I'll also use 150m+ buildings as that's the height Americans seem to use as it roughly translates to 500ft.

Toronto needs only 8 of its proposals to be realized to reach 2/3 the skyline. If 17 proposals are realize it will equate to 3/4 the skyline. If all of them happen, it will arguably be a dead heat. I didn't include Mississauga.

Chicago: # of 150m+ buildings
Built: 114
Under Construction: 4
Proposals: 16
TOTAL: 134

Toronto: # of 150m+ buildings
Built: 43
Under Construction: 28
Proposals: 66
TOTAL: 137

Uh no... if all the proposals go through in combination with whats being built Toronto will have MORE 200+m buildings than Chicago and the almost exactly the same number of 150m+ buildings. Go check out the skyscraperpage diagrams or look up some actual facts. At this pace Toronto will have a larger skyline by 2025

I guess...Toronto has NO supertalls though, other than an observation deck, so its really hard to place it in the same league as Chicago. Toronto is like a little brother to Chicago. Im glad to see it grow.

Please don't judge a picture before understanding what does it show.
In that picture there are 5 skyscrapers @ 200+ m. and one UD @ 290 m. and it is only a thin slice of the skyline of Singapore.

Toronto's an extremely pragmatic place. When the city starts building 300m+, it will be because the economics of it dictate that it be that tall. Toronto doesn't build vanity towers. It will also mean that we won't see just the odd proposal over 300 but a whole slew of them.

The upper limit back in 2010 seemed to be around 240m, in 2012 it edged up to 280m, and there are now 3 in the super tall category proposed. Who would have thought when First Canadian Place (298m) was built in 1975 that it would take 41 years to see a proposal surface that was 2 m taller. We almost had a super tall a long long time ago.

I imagine by 2025 Toronto will have 5-6 super talls. We'll need them to keep up with all those big Asian skylines. We can't let them hog the whole spotlight.

Hmm...not sure about 5-6 supertalls in such a short time. I think 3-4 is more likely. Hopefully Chicago will have 9-10 by then. Heres to hoping both cities see supertall construction!
