hong kong is beautiful. definitely better than NYC. it seems like there's more buildings, but even if there wasn't, its still better. NYC doesn't have those beautiful hills and mountains

Hong Kong, Chicago, Shanghai certainly rock, and let's not forget Paris, London and Frankfurt, but New York is by far no. 1.

It is so silly to me how people like to assure how great something else may be compared to NY when Ny is not brought up. Its as if they ( jess) take the oppurtunity to knock NYC down a peg or two for the hell of it.
"Definetly better" I know its opinion but that is a stretch. Alot is not taken into consideration when someone says something to that effect.

In addition this page has been lagging in photos on the original skyscraper citys. I'd say its a toss up between NY and Chicago and I do lean more towards Chicago. Judging on height, aesthetics, architectural variety, history, innovation, density, textures..Chicago, and NY have all of that. The variety and history of NY and Chicago is unmatched. Another Asian city that meets those qualifications is Shanghai.

Jesus. Do you constantly find a thread that I or milquetoast have posted in JUST to come make an argument. If you read through this thread, you will prove yourself wrong. I have been reading this thread more than you have and I can tell you that the cities brought up the most are Hong Kong and NYC. Then, followed by them are Shanghai, Tokyo, and Chicago. So, does that make it less silly to you as to why I said that about NYC? In fact, I love NYC, not the people, but everything else. It seems like every NYer on here and city-data.com has no life; all they do is come here, say good stuff about NY, and say bad stuff about LA. Can't a man have his opinion for Christ' sake? nygirl, you're really starting to piss me off you know that? i'm tellin milky about this thread and he'll go balls to the walls gettin pissed at you.

Calm down everyone. Isn't it a good thing people have different views? It'd be a very boring discussion if everyone converged to the same answer time after time again.

Skylines can be impressive with or without distinctive geographical features. KL and Atlanta for example can have an impressive skyline despite not having a waterfront. They make it up with skyscrapers and architecture.

It's a mistake to attempt to isolate factors that make a skyline great, since that argument is going to fall when someone else raises more factors that are important but were not considered. Sure, there are cities that look great without geographic enhancement (ie. New York), but there are also plenty of other cities that look just as great with geographic features (ie. Hong Kong). In the end, nothing is accomplished.

Simiarly, I don't think you can add or substract factors in place of others either. A waterfront cannot be replaced by 3 big skyscrapers or with top 10 buildings that are 2x the average height of the normal skyline. We haven't gotten so mathematical in our subjective senses yet. This isn't linear regression.

We should assess a skyline based on a broad spectrum of factors. That list may not be ever complete, but at least it is an attempt to bring a more wholistic approach to come up with an educated decision.

So good, you posted it twice!

Shame OIE is just out of view...What happened to Highcliff and Summit? Are they also just out of view? I thought they'd be visible from this angle...seem to have disappeared.

If by "a winner" you mean New York, then you'd be correct.
