A recent branding decision was to downsize the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation into HSBC for an international standard. However, the Chinese name for HSBC remains. Not only has the bank followed the Hong Kong expatriate community, its aggressive international expansion (ie. Midland Bank in the 1990s) has made it a truly global bank today.

^We know it just call HSBC now, it is important to know where're it come from, just like why England call England not "Island in the middle of nowhere"

So is HSBC bank British or asian. Who owns it? I know it used to be called Midland bank in the UK but i don't know the history. Does anyone know the banks historical and present day status? I would be interested to know. Thanks

HSBC is based in London with primary stock listings in London, Hong Kong, New York, and Paris. Its origins are in Hong Kong and Shanghai as the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation but has now expanded to a global bank. Hongkong Bank bought Midland in the UK in the 1990s and continued with an aggressive internationalization campaign. As a result, HSBC was adopted as the global brand.

Buffalo, New York
Formerly the Marine Midland Bank headquarters and the old American flagship for HSBC. Now the operation is eclipsed by recent acquisitions. The building is the tallest in the city.

HSBC started its operations in the Philippines in 1875. Most of its branches are in Metro Manila.

HSBC - The Philippines

HSBC Malate Branch

Pearl of the Orient Seas - The Philippines

I dont have a pic of the building (ugly anyway) but i got a nice sunset picture out of the HSBC building in Southend. 8 Canada Square (world HQ) is located a little right of the picture (see arrow) and about 40 miles away. You can see it on a clear day like it was tonight.
