In fact Holland is one of the most ''reality tv'' saturated countries.
In a nut shell. The yanks arent entirely to blame.

But its good fun blaming the americans for degenerating a good thing down to its lowest common denominator.

See what they did to Da Vinci's Mona Lisa...

DAMN ! what a pity

Jackson dumped from future Tolkien projects

11.30am Tuesday November 21, 2006
New Zealand director Peter Jackson will not be making The Hobbit or a second Lord of the Rings prequel, according a letter posted on LOTR website Theonering.com. The letter, from Jackson and partner Fran Walsh was posted this morning and states that New Line are actively seeking another director. A spokesperson from Wingnut Films confirmed to nzherald.co.nz this morning that the letter was genuine.

"Last week, Mark Ordesky called Ken [Kamins, Jackson's manager] and told him that New Line would no longer be requiring our services on The Hobbit and the LOTR 'prequel'. This was a courtesy call to let us know that the studio was now actively looking to hire another filmmaker for both projects," wrote Jackson. The announcement comes after an ongoing dispute between Jackson's Wingnut Films and New Line, regarding differing accounting practices, revealed during an audit of the income from The Fellowship of the Ring.

While New Line suggested Jackson agree to make The Hobbit in order to settle the lawsuit, the director refused. "We have always said that we do not want to discuss The Hobbit with New Line until the lawsuit over New Line's accounting practices is resolved," wrote Jackson. "In our minds this is not the right reason to make a film and if a film of The Hobbit went ahead on this basis, it would be doomed." Met with Jackson's firm resolve, New Line's Vice-president Mark Ordesky called the director last week and said that New Line had a limited time option on the film rights, something which Jackson says had never been mentioned before.

Clearly disappointed with the news, Jackson wrote: "This outcome is not what we anticipated or wanted, but neither do we see any positive value in bitterness and rancour."

Studio nabs $37m film deal

5.00am Thursday November 30, 2006
Auckland's Huhu Studios computer animation workshop has signed a US$25 million ($37 million) deal for a six-part series of movies - animated and in 3D - based on Bible stories. Part of the money will come from iGlobe Treasury, a fund sponsored by the Government's Venture Investment Fund. The first of the six-part Wise Giant series, Ten Commandments, has just been announced in Cannes as the first 3D animated theatrical release produced in New Zealand.

Weta Studio and Wellington to get big slice of James Cameron's new $NZ294 million production

Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron believes Wellington company Weta Digital will create the fantasy worlds he needs for his first big film since Titanic, a science fiction blockbuster which will begin shooting in April.

Cameron will film Avatar using a blend of live-action photography and new virtual "photorealistic" production techniques, for release in new digital 3D cinemas expected to be introduced in time for the $US200 million ($NZ294 million) film's release in the winter of 2009.

The science fiction epic has been written by Cameron, about a soldier who is part of Earth's invasion of an alien planet but then joins the indigenous races' resistance fight after falling in love with a local inhabitant. He eventually leads the indigenous race in a battle for survival. The lead actor will be a young Australian Sam Worthington, (Somersault and Dirty Deeds) and the female lead will be Zoe Saldana (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl).

"Weta's artists will incorporate new intuitive CGI (computer-generated image) technologies to transform the environments and characters into photorealistic 3D imagery that will transport the audience into the alien world rich with imaginative vistas, creatures and characters," the Fox statement said.

Principal photography for Avatar will take place in Los Angeles and New Zealand.
