Atlanta is very much a world-class city. It is with the respect to business, culture, and music. However, it is still way behind cities like Tokyo, NYC, London, Rome, Paris, Hong Kong, etc.

Was being facetious. Because everyone else was give specific years.

Again atlanta is not a world class city, there's only three world class cities in the US which are NY, LA, Chi.

I say SF is up there, but barely. NY and LA are tops, then Chicago comes in just below them.

To me Chicago, SF, and DC are in the same group. Id say they are mostly world class, but still not at the same level as NYC or LA.

NY is the only world class city in the US.

SF, Boston and DC follow it and are along the lines of cities like Madrid, Vienna, Barcelona.

No offense, but Atlanta is not world class.

LA is definitely world class. I'd also put Chicago in that category.

I'm going to have to ask you to defend this post. How on Earth is Atlanta "world class" in terms of business, culture and music?

I think what he's saying is that business, culture (arguably), and music are what Atlanta is most well-known for outside its immediate region of influence. In other words, it has "world-class" elements/characteristics, but is not truly world class in itself.

And truth be told, any city of 2-3 million or more in the developed world is going to have world-class elements/characteristics, even if it isn't world class.

Rail, you and I have been on the same page for years on these forums; I think I said almost the exact same thing you did about any moderately-sized, post-industrial metro having "world-class-Lite" aspects in the "Is Houston World Class" thread.

LA isn't really a traditional city. It's new and spread out. It's really like a huge, sprawling post WWII suburb. As for Chicago, it's not really international, and therefore, doesn't qualify. Also, it's hard to even consider a city that's only 150 years old as world class. While NY is "new" compared to London and Paris, it has been around for sufficiently long. It was a thriving city for 200 years by the time Napoleon rose to fame. Chicago, by contrast, still had not even been established.

i rewatched the futurama episode with the "sunken city of altanta" tonight...lol...the satire is never farther from the truth. "our city relies on tourism...please stay." "ancient atlanta was once a major metropolitan area, rivaling new york and paris. more than just a delta hub." lol...although the ATL densified really nicely in that episode before it sank. that'd be kinda cool to see (and sucky at the same time.)
