Work under way on £100m hospital

Construction work on a £100m hospital in Glasgow is under way.
The new Stobhill hospital, in the north of the city, will cover four floors and an area equivalent to the size of five football pitches.
It will treat about 400,000 patients each year when it opens in 2009, according to the Scottish Executive.
The Stobhill site will include a Marie Curie Hospice, an inpatient mental health service for young people and a new secure care centre.
It will provide a number of specialist health services such as cardiology, renal dialysis and gynaecology.

We want new kids hospital to look like this!
YOUNG patients have kickstarted the process of designing Glasgow's new £100million maternity and children's hospital.

Children have come up with a wish list for the new facility at the Southern General - and it includes ideas such as a cinema and internet room as well as a plea for older kids to be treated more like adults.

The new hospital should open by 2011/12 and will replace the ageing Sick Kids' and Queen Mum's at Yorkhill.

Earlier this year Glasgow health chiefs promised to leave no stone unturned in finding the best design for the site when they announced the controversial decision to relocate the hospitals to Govan.

Was just thinking wouldn't Frank Gehry or Alsop be perfect for a childrens hospital, lots of funky wild shapes especially their early work.

Get a kid to do a drawing of a zebra or something, give it to Alsop, he'll add some colours, give it a draughtsman, and there - you have a building!

I'm not hugely enthused by the new bits, but the old building is gorgeous!! Glad it's been saved.

Ruchill is at the centre of atraction for new developers... lots of companies are bidding for this prime land for housing.

Quote:
A HISTORIC former hospital site in the north of Glasgow has attracted "phenomenal" interest from developers.

Ruchill Hospital, built during Victorian times and closed in 1999, stands on almost 40 acres of land.

The site, which has some of the most impressive Victorian listed buildings in the city, is valued at £3million to £5m, but the total cost of developing it could be up to £80m.

Ruchill Hospital is made up of 13 listed buildings and one non-listed

Birth of the future

Quote:
HEALTH bosses in Glasgow were today expected to give the go-ahead to plans for a £28million maternity hospital at the Southern General Hospital.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde was discussing plans which will see a new mum and baby unit open in the South Side by December 2009.

If it wins approval the move will mark the end of the Queen Mother's maternity at Yorkhill which will transfer its births to the new unit once it opens.

But, crucially, the Yorkhill model of a maternity unit sitting next to a sick kids' hospital will be maintained when the new £100m children's hospital is later built on the Southern General site.

Mate, you can post several pics in one post by just pressing return and pasting the next link. If you press return twice, you can even leave a blank line between each pic. Nice.

Warning over £100m hospital move

Quote:
The cost of relocating Scotland's biggest children's hospital will run over budget.

Senior officials at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde yesterday warned their proposals to move the Royal Hospital for Sick Children would top an initial pricetag of £100m. They also said that an outline business case for the project, due at the end of last year, is still not ready.

Internal concern is mounting over "inflationary pressures" on the size and quality of the building.

Thats a beast. Yellow buildings - retained until reprovision elsewhere - probably Glasgow's bus network.
