Suvarnabhumi ranked world’s 6th best airport by size in 2012

BANGKOK, April 3 – Suvarnabhumi Airport was awarded the world’s sixth Best Airport by size by the Airports Council International (ACI) in competition with other 17 airports with more than 40 million passengers, according to Suvarnabhumi Airport Director Vilaiwan Nadvilai.

Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport ranking was 7th in 2011.

Under the ACI’s Airport Service Quality awards, 199 airports joined the rankings and more than 400,000 passengers were questioned about their satisfaction in the airport service four times in a year.

The first three Best Airport awards by size went to Singapore’s Changi Airport, Beijing Airport and Hong Kong Airport.

Suvarnabhumi Airport has set target to be in the top five next year.

The higher ranking for Suvarnabhumi Airport is the success of cooperation of all agencies at the airport to improve the airport service, she said. (MCOT online news)

Seriously, when are they going to start the construction of the expansion? Its already WAYYYYY over capacity and there are barely any plans released other than some ancient one from like 10 years ago.

This is the perspective rendering of the Automatic People Mover (APM) Station which will be located on underground level adjacent to Concourse D and the immigration area of the Main Terminal building. The APM will operate in the tunnel linking the Main Passenger Terminal and the SAT-1. By using natural lighting, well-ventilated space, live movement vista on the apron, lively illustrations, etc. will help ease the tension of the passengers from the travelling strain.

I am truly impressed with how BKK is designed... even the toilets look like an art gallery to me! It is something I truly want to look into when Manila is considering building a brand new airport soon... And by the way, @oasis-bangkok, from which district of Bangkok was that airport shot taken from? It looks pretty far away from the city center, but, on a clear day, I could see the distinctive terminal.

Looks like I've found a special livery on an A330 operating to Bangkok...

More convenience, safety for tourists at Suvarnabhumi Airport

BANGKOK, Sept 2 – Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has set up a special centre to facilitate passengers during the peak tourist season in October to March, according to airport director Rawewan Netrakavesna.

She said the centre, located on the fourth floor of the passenger terminal, was launched yesterday and would be operated round the clock until March 31 next year.

The numbers of security officials and protective measures would also be boosted to provide safety to passengers.

Airports of Thailand (AoT) estimated 27.5 million passengers arriving and departing Suvarnabhumi airport per year, on average 152,000 people daily – an increase by 5.5 per cent year-on-year. The highest number of passengers are from China, Japan and Russia.

The airport provides service to an average 806 flights a day, a 2.6 per cent increase year-on-year, she said. (MCOT online news)
