But isn't that true of most significant skylines, a small fraction being great buildings with a hell of a lot of mundane filling the gaps. HK and NYC's hordes of apartment buildings have a lot more character, granted, but they're hardly inspiring pieces of architecture on their own.

I like to look at GC like the barrier reef, one little bit of coral by itself isn't that beautiful, but the reef as a whole is pretty stunning. With the GC, any one of the cement monoliths by itself is pretty uninspiring, but a couple hundred of them altogether, and you've got something. It's not beautiful, but the whole mish mash has a little charm.

Maybe it's just because I've spent so many days taking pictures of them for Emporis, but I insist on keeping my glass half full perspective. And they're not all biege, there's peach, powder blue, slightly darker blues, light yellows, white, off-white, bone, ivory... biege. It's like a giant nursing home.

yes, well since the 1990's most new bldgs on the Gc are quite good. thus the whole surfers is evolving into a newer/better city with great modern towers.projects like Q1,pivotal Point,Conc, Soul have set new benchmarks for designs. so future is looking bright!

Yeh its good to be here DeeJayT.....i would post up heaps of pics of buildings as I enjoy doing that but when I wanna reply it says I can't post any attachments...any clues? I heard on the news the other night they are thinking of selling the GC Transit Centre in Surfers and building possibly a "Q2", which may get 10 floors higher than Q1. That would be cool but all these super giants are gonna cut off the beach. I thought GCCC put a restriction on towers over the front beach.......?

To my understanding mannix_10, the final DA approval for tall towers near the beachfront are positioned so that any shadows that may
be cast over the beach are minimised egs: Q1 and the soon to be built approved Soul Tower.

A couple of recent shots by DeejayT:

View from Skyline North

Took this today from 40th floor of Chevron Skyline North. You can see how COC is starting to dwarf all 3 Skylines.

They're looking good so far. The glass is excellent and I love how close they are to the water. Are these all residential or is there a hotel portion?

That tower is Avalon - 35 stories / 105m residential right on the river.
