Duisburg Germany
After the pics of Gdansk/Poland where I was born, here some pics of Duisburg/Germany where I had grown up and current live.
Some information about Duisburg for firts. Duisburg is one of the biggest citys of the Ruhrgebiet, wich is the manufacturingbelt at the river Ruhr in the west of Germany. The river Rhine runs also through Duisburg. There live round about 600.000 people. Duisburg has got the biggest inner harbour (not at the sea) in Europe and second in the world. The city is also the biggest production location for steel in the world an also famous for coal, as the whole "Ruhrgebiet" is. Duisburg is over 1500 years old, the romans founded it 500 years a.c., but the city has not so many old builidings, because as an important industrial city it was nearly bombed to ashes during WWII. In the last few years the alteration of Duisburg from an industrial city to a location technology and services has begun. The most known habitant of Duisburg was Gerhard Mercator the famous cartographer form the middle ages. These are pics I´ve took yesterday an this night just for fun, thats also the reason why the quality is not always very good. Pics of the inner harbour wich was transformed into a recreation and night life center, originally this part of the harbour was used as a reloading point for crop. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One of the towers in the inner city, on the right side they started to build a new shoppingcenter including the biggest casino in germany ![]() The Citibank-Tower next to the central trainstation ![]() The Klöckner-Building ![]() The Beyer factory on the other side of the Rhine in Krefeld ![]() The town hall clock with a poster of the World Games 2005 wich take place here in Duisburg ![]() One of the many bridges over the Rhine ![]() ![]() ![]() The lifting bridge Schwanentor in the city over a bassin of the harbour ![]() Skyline photographed from the highway ![]() The new football stadium MSV-Arena ![]() The municipal utility tower photographed from the inner harbour, also on the picture the town hall tower and the Salvator chruch. The blue lights of the tower are a tribute to the local football club wich scales up into the frist league this year, before the lights were green. ![]() One of the big steel mills ![]() ![]() The old city theater
