How many beaches does your city have?
So how many beaches does your city have? This is probably an advantage for cities with access to ocean.
Sydney: 169 beaches

The City of Chicago has 33 beaches on Lake Michigan. I don't know what the count is for the metro area, but there's at least another 100 miles of shoreline in the official metro area.

Chennai(Madras) has two beaches, Marina beach and Elliot's beach.
This Marina beach was totally destroyed by the tsunami. Earlier it was supposed to be the 2nd longest beach in the world. ![]() ![]() Elliot's Beach ![]() Pics are courtesy of Luckystreak of SSC India.

Cape Town has 52 beaches. These include some of the world's most fashionable like Clifton Beach & Camps Bay (aptly named as they are reknowned for their gay bathers!);the lone 7km wide Noordhoek Long beach (popular with horse riders), Blouberg's Big Bay (surfer's haven); Sandy Bay (for the nudists); Sunset Beach (secluded & spectacular sunsets); Beespens (fisherman's paradise)

Just thought I'd mention that the original post by Matixvolta was referring to the metropolitan area surrounding Sydney. Absolutely nothing wrong with this - Australian's only look at their city's regarding metro area's, but it's an important point for comparing with other cities around the world.
I would suggest looking at your metro area around your city for this comparison. By the way, I'll be spending two weeks in Sitges come July, a beachside resort town in Barcelona's metropolitan area. here are some photo's of this beach. Havn't been to the town yet, so I can't say what they are like, but most reports say it's pretty beautiful. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The River Thames has beaches, but if we're also including the metro areas then Greater London would probably extend all the way down to the South Coast of England as well as some of the East Coast. So, basically we have alot.
