Miami is all over the boards here. It ranks second in the unsafest metropolitan areas...

Miami as a city ranks 14th.

It ranks as the 9th unsafest city with populations 100K-500K

Miami is beautiful city though...

I wonder if the crime has anything to do with the massive illegal immigration... who knows?
The source that Wiki cites is from 1991. That number at the end of the sentence is a citation number. If you scroll down and read the “Reference” section of the Wiki article you can see that the source that correlates with the citation was written in 1991. I have no way of knowing if this reference had anything to do with the relative safety of Miami because there is no link; I just went by the citation number provided by the Wiki author:
Quote:
Based on the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports Program, Miami ranks as the second most dangerous metropolitan area in the United States, based number of murders, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts that have occurred in the metropolitan area. The city proper ranks 14th.[2]….

2. ^ Parks, Arva Moore. Miami: The Magic City. Miami, Fl: Centennial Press, 1991. ISBN 0962940224 p 12.
As for the reference you provided, although it may have been published in 2003-2004, the methodology clearly states that it is based on statistics from 1998-1999 and that it did not consider many cities including Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Memphis, St. Louis, Washington and many others because they did not have enough statistics. Also, this study was supposed to be based on cities’ metro areas but Miami’s metro area had a population much greater than 500,000 even in 1999. They probably used statistics from within the City of Miami boundaries, which would have included some of the sketchiest neighborhoods in the metro area of Miami. You can see that even in 1999 this study was flawed but most importantly it is from a different era in Miami’s turbulent history. In the past eight years, Miami has changed dramatically for the better, so it is unfair to judge it based on these statistics. I have lived in Miami my whole life, and I feel quite safe here (as long as I am not driving). Now let’s get back on topic.

umiami305's Construction Update

Yesterday, umiami305 went on a photo shooting frenzy. He took pictures of at least 20 different construction sites in downtown Miami and posted them on the Miami forum. It was amazing; probably the biggest construction update we’ve ever had on the Miami forum.

Foreground: Wind (153m, 501ft), Ivy (156m, 526ft). Background: Neovertika (112m, 369ft), Latitude (145m, 476ft).

MarinaBlue (187m, 615ft), Ten Museum Park (178m, 585ft).

Met I (134m, 440ft)

Marquis (207m, 679ft)

Plaza on Brickell (two towers, 186m, 610ft)

500 Brickell (two towers, 130m, 426ft)

Brickell on the River II (147m, 482ft)

Avenue (146m, 480ft)

Everglades on the Bay (164m, 538ft)

Loft II (132m, 433ft)

50 Biscayne (169m, 554ft)

Opera Tower (166m, 543 ft)

Once again, props to umiami305 for a great update.

Just this building could change the face of Miami. Being on the CBD right next to the Wachovia, Bank of America, Met 3 and Met 2 buildings. That's a CBD
I pray to all Saints that this one gets built.

That little one looks oddly out of scale.
