I really don't understand why Miami's skyline would be that recognizable. It doesn't really have anything that stands out. People are going to recognize skylines by interesting lighting schemes, or towers that stand out like the Transamerica Pyramid, Chrysler Tower, Westin Peachtree, etc.

Seattle has some nice buildings but I doubt the average person could pick it out. Same for most cities. Other than NY, Chicago, SF, Boston, LA, DC I doubt other cities have had enough exposure in movies and TV to be recognizable.

The problem for smaller cities is that bigger cities build highrises faster than they do, so the big cities actually pull away from the smaller cities.

No offense intended, but Jacksonville, Nashville and Phoenix barely have skylines at all. Why not mention Hartford CT, Sacramento CA, or Wilmington DE?

Not very recognizable but as it continues to grow, it so well along the coast. in a way it reminds me of N. Lakeshore Drive.
Miami

Northside Chicago

I've always had a soft spot for Miami.

Oh yeah, I didn't vote because I think that no city will ever match NYC's or Chicago's skyline, thus not becoming famous IMO

Again in some cases a recognizable landmark is more identifiable than a skyline. I think more people, not skyscraper fanatics, but regular people will recognize Seattle more so than Atlanta and most others on the list.

I wouldn't say Miami and LA are just presumed to be among the most famous four US skylines. I know a lot of people (myself included) who prefer other skylines over both cities, like SF, for example. So having said that, I believe Miami will be the next famous skyline. It's growing quite quickly and attractively.

The reason I said Miami's was recognisable is because the city is a big enough touist destination that the people who go through it are bound to remember it in some way.

Those cities have barely recognisable skylines on a world level.

JAX, Nashville, and Phoenix have developing skylines that, although still developing, have enough of one to be recognisable.

Miami's setting alone would make it more recognizable than Atlanta. Plus hit tv shows, movies, vacationers from all over the world.

I am surprised Philly is getting so less votes. I def. believe Philadelphia and its famous Liberty Place Towers and Comcast Center will make this skyline the next most famous in the U.S. My other choice would go to Dallas.

I have to go with Seattle, for the same reasons other have noted--there is a recognizable landmark in the Space Needle. Miami might develop enough in the next few years to have a landmark--other than the Bay--but I don't think any o the others --Houston, Philly included, will have that "instant" recognition that SF, LA, Chicago and NYC have.

Atlanta, Houston and Seattle are already pretty famous. As for as a post-WWII icon (basically what this thread is asking for), I'd say Atlanta.

Atlanta would be my last choice. I lived four years in the South and I don't like the city. Atlanta is dull, lifeless after hours and looks like overgrown suburbs, a bigger version of Jackson, Mississippi or Birmingham, Alabama. Its skyscrpers look like they were dropped on a forest with little planning, because there is hardly anything in the downtown area besides them and because of the distance between them. Highways have good surface, but since the city is sprawled over such a distance you have to waiste 1/4 of your life in the car. Moreover, considering the metropolitan population of 4.3 million (U.S. Bureau of Census) it has seriously underdeveloped public transit system. My choice is Miami, Florida.

I think it might be San Diego. Here are some pics. (I know sometimes I can over do it.)

Ok, so we understand you don't like Atlanta, that doesn't really mean it can't have a recognizable skyline.

I think Seattle, with the Space Needle and Mt Rushmore in the background, or Atlanta with the Westin Peachtree are pretty recognizable to the average joe. However, I don't think the average person in, for instance, Boise, Idaho would no either if Mt. Rushmore, Space Needle, or the W Peachtree were not in the pictures, whereas NY or Chicago are pretty distinguishable from any angle.
