Taken from the website www.railwaymarket.eu:

Wed 29th April 2009:

Poland: Tender for the second metro line in Warsaw decided

The authorities of the Warsaw Metro chose the best offer in a tender for construction of the main part of the second metro line in the Polish capital. As expected, the winner is a consortium of Italian Astaldi, Turkish Gulermak and Polish Przedsiębiorstwo Road & Bridge building from Mińsk Mazowiecki.

The project of the main part of the second metro line in Warsaw starts with the station "Rondo Daszyńskiego" (Daszyński's roundabout) and ends with "Dworzec Wileński" station (Wileński railway station).

Great news! Hopefully barring delays or protests construction can start on time next year

Metro does not accept the Chinese -Spanish protests

Mostostal Warszawa and Chinese Overseas Enginering Group had put in a protest about Astadli's lowest bid.

Warsaw rejected in its entirety two protests to block the construction of a second metro line between rondo Daszyńskiego and Dw.Wileńskim.

To sign a contract with the Italian-Polish-Turkish consortium Astaldi, Gulermak and PBDiM Minsk Mazowiecki, who submitted the lowest bid (4 billion 117 million) but still far way. Declined to tender the company now have 10 days to lodge applications to the National Board of Appeal. In the event of failure in this instance will be able to lodge a complaint with the District Court.

Construction of the second subway line should start in July 2010. City Hall announced that it will be finsihed at the end of 2013.

It isn't a custom Euro paint scheme, but a ZTM (City Transport Authorities) scheme. Look on new SKM (fast urban rail) trainsets, but there are some misunderstandings with MZA (Cty bus company), and the hole case seems to die out naturally.

I see some pictures form Rynek Kolejowy / Railway Market - CEE Review a couple of posts above: )

Interview with Tomasz Zaboklicki, CEO, PESA on how he makes his trams so "affordable" in English in June issues of Railway Market - CEE Review and in Polish in Rynek Kolejowy : )

You'll find the pics plus tram specs in the magazines.

Enjoy!

Colours of the new trams we will know in a few weeks.
At the moment status of the colours proposed by the ZTM isn't clear. No one knows if there any other vehicles besides SKM trains will be painted in the way proposed by ZTM.

There is a conflict between ZTM and MZA, because MZA had investede many money in deleloping their own liverty and logo (to be more recognisable in traffic), it was a moment before ZTM came up with their idea. So like everywhere in Poland, where a problem is, there aren't made any changes to current situation.
