Are there plans for Warsaw to build more than 2 metro lines in the future? I saw a metro map of Stockholm, and they have a cobweb of a great metro system. About 100 stations for a city with about half the size of Warsaw. Or is it too soon to ask?

yes, as for today we know how whole second line and part of 3rd line will look like (probably it will take another 5-8 years to construct it all) :

there are plannes for third line, but not officially accepted :

here you can see third line in the city center marked on red (it's proposed route and may change a bit, although I think it will stay more or less like presented below) :

Warsaw and Stockholm have similar agglomerations. Stockholm Metro in opposition to Warsaw ones crosses municipal boundaries.
Stockholm urban area - 1,252,020 inhabitants, the land area 377.30 km2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_urban_area
Besides Stockholm in opposition to Warsaw withdrawn trams (now they started to rebuilt their network).

I'm not sure if it has been asked here before, but isn't it possible to have people be brought to PKP Okęcie by shuttle, and then they can take a KM train to Warszawa Centralna? Or is it less efficient than the bus?

I'm not sure if I understand You correctly. There will be underground train station under the airport and direct trains provided by both SKM and KM to Warszawa Śródmieście which is 200 m from Warszawa Centralna. Both stations have direct connections between their underground platforms.

Yes, but while it's still under construction, why not provide for a shuttle service between the airport and Warszawa Okęcie as a stopgap solution so people can a train to the center until Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina (the train station) opens? Several airports have bus or shuttle services to nearby train stations (like Budapest and Rome) if the train doesn't directly serve the airport.

Chopin Airport is close enough to the centre to make buses a sufficient connection. Station will be opened in May 2012. Buses were sufficient last 40 years, so we can wait next few months, especially that time savings wouldn't justify costs.

I was in Warsaw in June 2011 and the bus connection to the airport from the city is very good. Nothing to worry about.

And, I really do hope Warsaw builds an extensive subway system. It's one of the best investments a city can make. I was in NYC in 2011, and while their subway system is old, run down, rustic and scary, it gets you everywhere. There's no need for a car. Warsaw could use a line in the south part of the city.

You're extremely right. Trams will never substitute metro and commuter rail (S-Bahn/SKM) in a city of Warsaw size. But at the moment it's better to have tram system, and little by little develop metro and commuter rail. Trams won't substitute metro network, but they can be an excellent supplement. Cities (including Stockholm) which have withdrawn trams, now are reconstructing line by line.

Well maybe have a subway line go across from Ursynow, Wilanow to Wawer districts (obviously with many other stops in between).

Many years (or decades) Warsaw won't be able to afford metro line which won't cross the centre. Even in Stockholm there's no such line.

Think positive. These are already populated areas. And isn't Wilanow growing? They're building one of the greatest neighborhoods there. I'm jealous
They deserve a metro line into the downtown of Warsaw.

Metro line to the downtown - perhaps some day, but in the municipal plans there's a tram line, not the metro line. But You mentioned the metro line which doesn't cross the downtown, only southern districts. I'm afraid this kind of metro lines won't be constructed ever. Trams will be sufficient for that kind of connections.

Tunnels of the first metro line. They're monitoring if construction of the second line doesn't cause any damages.
