I posted this in the shard forum but noticed that you can now see St George Tower (floor 20) from Wimbledon (In-front of T42)

Crikey, will look much higher than T42 (even close to shard height) from that view, when complete height. This is a dark horse i think, and will look pretty imposing i'm sure.
I work this out to be currently 220-230 feet high,38% height.

i like this design, it has something of the class of 1cs canary wharf, but in the round, and with a cool sculptural sci-fi bit of bling on top.. also I wouldn't worry about it being standalone.. its organic style of urbanism and its part of the london way of doing things - we are entering a new era of skyline in london, and soon a lot of these gaps will be filled with objects

Great Update. Not sure on the cladding, but they always stated it was going to be like that through the renders so cant complain too much.

I'm liking the cladding. On Wikipedia it says this towers completion date is 2014... seems a long way away?
2013 I can believe.

Great photos, that pier went it quickly. Personally it's too early for me to make any judgments on the cladding, looks fairly promising though.

I agree. Slim, simple, reflective glass panels - an almost retro 60s feel to it, like a classy version of the main shaft of the BT Tower.
Quite unpretentious actually (i.e. no - *shudders* - 'random cladding').

All they had to do onsite was knock a hole in the river wall, run some power cables and sink the mooring posts into the river bed. Considering it had been a part of their planning consent for several years it was probably done well in advance. The entire pier and gangway was built in Holland, shipped over in one piece and completely installed in less than a day.
You may recall the Tug but capsizing on the thames in August, it was one of two tugs which delivered the pier and was taking the floating crane which installed it back to Gravesend when it hit a mooring buoy. Last edited by mogwai83; October 6th, 2011 at 12:15 PM. |
