ONE Wins an Order for the Mandarin Oriental Tower in Chicago
Sep 4, 2007

KONE has received a contract from Bovis Lend Lease on behalf of Palladian Development for the design, delivery and installation of all elevators for the new building named Mandarin Oriental Tower Chicago in the U.S. When completed, the multi-purpose building will offer five-star hotel guest rooms, private residences and tower condominiums. The first floors of the building will house restaurants that are part of the hotel and luxury retail.

Standing at 248 meters (814 feet), the Mandarin Oriental Chicago will be among the ten tallest buildings in Chicago once it is completed in 2010. The exclusive development will be located next to Chicago’s growing Millennium Park neighborhood, which has become the city’s renowned centre for art, music, architecture and landscape design. Mandarin Oriental Chicago will occupy 19 floors of the 61-story tower.

“KONE is excited to work with Palladian Development, Bovis Lend Lease and Solomon Cordwell Buenz Architects, which were important considerations for KONE in securing this prestigious project. KONE is also extremely pleased to work with the Mandarin Hotel in their first luxury project in Chicago,” comments Vance Tang, KONE EVP, Area Director for the Americas.

The hotel and residences will be equipped with 14 KONE MiniSpaceTM and 3 KONE MonoSpace® elevators, and one hydraulic elevator. The installation of the elevators is planned to start in April 2008 and scheduled to be completed in January 2010.

I don't see them starting elevators by April, considering they haven't even broken ground.

if they have the foundation done by april, kone could probably start work on the hydrolic elevators, which would mean that they are planning to start doing construction very soon. Its either that, or the date is completely unrealistic. We'll see.

Is this a joke? At 814 Feet it would be the 11th tallest right now!, not including the 3 new supertalls being built and Aqua and the Legacy which are still taller then 814 feet, this building will be number 15th for a year then 16th as the spire is completed. lol.

Funny, their website says, "life at 900 feet", looks like they downsized. lame!

Build it at least tall enough so that one condo is over 899 feet so that the statements on the website aren't a lie!

Not really sure, it just says 814 feet in the article about 6 posts up, and I hope their information is wrong for the sake of their integrity (of the builders of the manderine oriental).

Oh..good. That would really not be cool if they scaled it down. And when is this sucker going to break ground? What are they waiting for?

The groundbreaking for this project might start in Jan. 2008. However, I have a feeling
it won't happen until Spring 2008.

thats actually good news in the middle of a shitstorm. 60% sold? thats good. hard to be surprised a project like this is having trouble getting off the ground. housing/credit markets suck big donkey balls right now. but I think this will happen. early spring sounds good.

I was in downtown today just hanging out, and visited the site, and there's nothing there. Very disappointing!

That's what happens when things aren't under construction.

Maybe you should have visited the sales center 1/4 block away too see what the deal is.

I know what happens when things aren't under construction, but thanks for the info. I was under the impression that this building had been approved ages ago, and the disappointment stems from there not being anything done at the site despite real estate already being sold.

It's been 3 years since the original posting of this thread, and there are no news to report, kinda weird, don't you think?

They've waited this long, there's no reason to start construction w/o a full loan.
