It is a multi-function tower ( residential, hotel and administration).
The base is mall

It's a little kitchy because there's a lot of unnecessary decoration without function. Too many optical features and decorations seem to compete with one another.

And it looks spooky because it has the most prominant structural feature of an animal: mirror symmetry along a vertical plane! This is why the building looks more like a living creature than like an object. Some giant otherworldly creature. I believe no one would feel comfortable living next to it. A building should look rather static (like an object). If it looks too dynamic people expect it to walk around at night

The new tower in Chicago by Calatrava, on the other hand, though somewhat similar, looks very nice because it looks rather static and is not overly decorated.

not sure how to make of it -- i got a feeling that the renderings make it harsher and kitschier than it would physically look

how close to reality is it and if real (approved), where?

Looks pretty nice, but would only be doable by the water, it would look very out of place in a dense downtown.

why did you lost so much precious space by twisting it?
It's a brilliant way to let more residents have nearly open space above their balconies so that even units not at the very top can enjoy the ambience of penthouse-like terraces.
