Excessive Thread Deletions in the Airports & Aviation Section
A week ago, I noticed there was a massive number of thread deletions in the Airports & Aviation section : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumd...hp?forumid=129
About 2/3 of the threads in that section was deleted, leaving only 6 pages of threads with the oldest now dating from May 11, 2005 compared to some 20 pages of threads going back to 2004 previously. First of all, I would like to know the reason why that section was almost gutted out completely. Why was there no consultation or notification that this was happening beforehand. Second, are those deleted threads no longer relevant to an educated discussion of aviation-related matters? I find that particularly hard to believe, since there are a lot of research-based articles in there that are still very relevant in today's industry environment. Third, is the forum so desperate for bandwidth that a section as popular as the Airports & Aviation board has to be gutted out to 6 pages while other areas such as the Skybar can enjoy 14 pages of articles? I find this inconsistency hard to believe. Are aviation-related discussions not value-adding at SSC anymore? There is more inconsistency with the other parts of the Infrastructure & Mobility board. The Infrastructure & Mobility main board has 5 pages of posts going back to October 14th, 2004. The Bridges section has 5 pages of posts going back to August 31st, 2004. The Subways & Urban Transport section has 20 pages of posts going back to August 31st, 2004. I don't see why the Airports & Aviation section can only keep less than a month of articles. |

check the display function on the bottom.
It reads: From the Last month Change it to beginning and you'll see all the threads. It's the same in skybars, and in the EE fototeka per example

Lovely! I wonder why that section had such a setting.
Thanks for your help! |

But it still is a standard practice to delete threads that reach a certain age - that's what happens at a forum... for keeping of information, a static archive or a wiki would be much better.
