This is an example of Quilmes City, of a former dead corner:

. We have lost much of our architectural and historical heritage in pursuit of "development".[/QUOTE]

Us too! Yes it's sad to see a house commercialized but it would be worse to see it demolished and replaced with a modern cement block box.

With what was demolished in USA you can create several complete first-tier cities .

Another case of Quilmes, Argentina:

After (2015):

Here's the renovation plan for Edificio Lubia, a 50's residencial building in Guatemala City:

Who said the skill to build those details was lost?

I doubt it's the skill, it's more the will to incorporate such details into modern designs (which typically are more minimalist or the materiality is completely different).

Poland and Germany are really leading the way on this type of restoration but it's not surprising given their respective histories.

It's a shame they didn't fix the street level of the last building. A run down base can ruin the look of a building completely.

Ignore the f*cking ugly shit behind it. It reminds me how little shame there is in Romania for a messy facade.

What do you mean? It's very much brutalist, as it still retains its concrete grid and its concrete stairwells. It now looks more like the Unite D'Habitation, instead of generic commieblock.

All they did was remove the messy windows (which were not even original) and the hideous rotting brick which distracted from the geometry of the grid.
