The street where Bellestrem Palace sits should be made into a woonerf, very nice ambience and so close to Music Forum and Freedom Square...and so much high quality varied architecture along Wlodkowica Street.

Kepno, Poland. The communist-era extension was renovated to fit the neo-baroque church architecture.

Well, if restoring original condition was not an option, this is very good imho...

I dislike this type of intervention. Sure it looks better, but now it's impossible to understand what's ancient and what's modern and "fake".

They should have made the newer part in a different way: even using a different colour or material would have been enough to differentiate. Or at least an incision saying "2015" on the door on the side extension... Anything, but not plainly copying the existing part.

Of course, the even better option would have been completely removing the addition! But I suppose the extension was needed.

Nothing's 'ancient' here, as old building is from industrial era.

Sorry, language mistake, I should have said "historical". But what I said is valid anyway, it's at least more than 100 years old! I love most of Poland's renovations, I almost always push the like button. I think it's the first time I openly criticize a Polish renovation

Ok, I'm not saying your arguments are illogical, I totally get them.
But honestly changing just a color while still rebuilding communist era building part to look like old one is pointless for me - It's still deformation of history. So If you want this to be right from this point of view, it should be only facade renovation, without changes.

Demolition of the extension would be much more preferable.

Can't say I dislike that really. It's a well-blending extension, this kind of things were done throughout most of the historicist times, for around 150 years. Why shouldn't we do it today?

It was a rather non-notable, fairly "random" neo-baroque church, but nice for sure. The extension improves its appearance. In such cases it's enough to have a table and photographs or models to explain the history of this building.

I would feel a little different if this was done to a really significant building like the Wawel Castle, St. Mary in Gdansk, etc. Though even there historicising additions should be possible if fitting, like a real spire that St. Mary of Gdansk is missing! Let's take out the barriers in our brains and improve buildings that weren't meant to look like that and only do due to e.g. financial restraints in the past.

Totally off topic, was St. Mary intended to have a spire? The tower looks really huge itself, spire would've been maybe too high, like that on St. Elisabeth (I think) in Wroclaw that crashed centuries ago. Don't know how would a spire on St. Mary look like, the tower looks already nice itself, but I would like to see a restored spire on St. Elisabeth, it looks kinda silly today.
