Is Georgian architecture inspired by Byzantine architecture?

The Cathedral in Poti was built during the Russian Empire in 1800's, when neo-Byzantine architecture used to popular in the region. Another neo-Byzantine church was located in Tbilisi, it was the largest church in the Caucasus, but demolished in the Soviet era. Original Georgian medieval churches have very unique and different look, but some of them are somehow related to Byzantine architecture.

It seems even in Soviet times, architects kept true to the Georgian vernacular. At least, for most non-blocks.

Yeah, they didn't destroy most of Georgian churches, but many of them were damaged badly. During their ''reconstruction'' most of German colonial heritage has been demolished, for example Gothic Lutheran church in Tbilisi, along with German towns. Also many Art Nouveau and 18th century buildings are gone.
